Ground risk  insurance will have to pay out. Work for the maintenance guys. Could be a lot of stress damage to the ERJ. Again Embraer will make money out of charging for a repair scheme. Not much change out of £80k all in,

If there's any damage to the airframe itself (on either aircraft), add an extra zero to your estimate.

Jackpot.

Just to put the quakers in to you JW - I heard the other day that a certain travel business on the Island with interests in the CI's too is working with Aurigny to get IOM Gov to buy-in to Aurigny and it would serve both Guernsey AND the Isle of Man. The cost? IOM Gov would have to agree to underwrite £4-5m of losses per year. I hope to god that Skelly and Alfie aren't even entertaining this.

Compared to the creative ways our Government find to toss cash away it doesn't look that bad ! Take away 1.6 million which I think is the health service necessity, then compared to the nags on the prom and Longworths toy train the balance looks manageable ! If airlines don't want to come this may be the only way forward, we are paying god knows how much to sort the sea routes which is going to actually return eff all for some years given we need new ships and have to develop half of merseyside at taxpayers expense.

Taking control of IOMSPC was a great move for the island.  As an island we need to have some certainty and control over our own critical routes.  The sea is that critical travel medium.  The Steam Packet will be able to raise finance to replace the boats.   No bid deal.

I agree it will raise finance easily but it is disingenuous for anyone to imply that that is not a "cost" in the scheme of the deal. Taking control of the packet was a good move but I think we overpaid. Moving on, I think we have to do something with the air routes, we are a niche market and as such need a niche market solution, which imo open skies does not provide.

Could we afford it? Terry Liddiard touts the idea of a Manx Airlines re-birth...

Pie in the sky..?

With the airline industry allover the place and so many planes owned by leasing companies and not flying that there is a possibility that acquiring planes themselves might be a little cheaper than normal. Spending a fortune on setting up a permanent airline is probably not a good idea, but something initially short term by experienced people might work.

If the IOM Gov ( population) is going to subsidise air travel then it would be better to have a contractual arrangement with an existing Operator who has aircraft and crew available to provide key route services and limit open skies until the market recovers. No point in supporting an airline for another to swoop in and cherry pick.

There are no surprises on what an airline will cost. Just pop down to Guernsey and ask their government what their net costs are to keep their national airline.

Mr Liddiard is losing his mind. How many hundred millions does he think are lying around waiting to be thrown away on mad ideas ?

Just look at how much  Guernsey are losing. Insane.

Does anyone actually think Manx Airlines was Manx ?

Plus the cost of acquiring the landing slots at any significant UK airport that he was so happy to sell on to BA when they came a-waving the chequebook?
