Plus the cost of acquiring the landing slots at any significant UK airport that he was so happy to sell on to BA when they came a-waving the chequebook?

That’s a rewriting of history!

I recall it was the significant reason behind BA's acquisition of MA though, John? The prized Heathrow slots?

But sale was not down to Terry. That was Michael Bishop who sold up.

Terry was responsible for setting it up.  Remember it was the Cazenoves with British Island Airlines and Bishop with British Midland who were losing money on their Manx routes, competing, who pooled resources into Manx.

The idea of a hub here, engineering here, not competing on commercially viable routes, was good. It worked.

In someways too successfully. The expansion into Manx Europe, then BRAL, then the BA franchising all came before the sale. Indicative of the costs and difficulties of running a multi hub, feeder, regional airline.

And yes, the value to BA, when they bought, was the Heathrow slots.

But there had been rumblings before then about the increased costs at Heathrow making the route non viable as the ATP and 146 were going to be charged the same fees as a 737 or 319/20.

Assuming that there isn’t a cost for slots at LGW, LTN, LCY, MAN, LPL, DUB, GLA, EDI, BHD, and that planes are cheap, and redundancies mean there is a pool of labour at lower than pre Covid wages how do we avoid other operators coming in. How do we stop meaningful competition from EasyJet or Logan Air. Because that’s the issue with Aurigny. They’re competing with the big boys, duplicating flights on routes, there is over capacity.

Mr Liddiard is losing his mind. How many hundred millions does he think are lying around waiting to be thrown away on mad ideas ?

Just look at how much  Guernsey are losing. Insane.

Does anyone actually think Manx Airlines was Manx ?

Quite honestly Dilli I thought Liddiard's explanation, information, strategic analysis and conclusions were absolutely persuasive. In fact the proposal he suggested seemed so logical and advantageous that the Isle of Man Government will almost certainly ignore it totally.

I stand corrected John, thank you.

Hmmm. Seems Howard doesn't think its a good idea, so it probably is.

Now I'm confused.

To be fair it isn't a good idea.

Can you imagine the fucking bellyaching from people when the tax payer has to fund it?

The only thing they should perhaps look at is whether routes should have exclusivity.

We lost the daily Belfast service because Easyjet shoved on a Friday Monday flight and took the business subsidising the rest of the flights.
