Roger Mexico
Quayle has now announced that "the government is in talks with two airlines over the routes and the patient transfer contract". Though he also claimed that "with the corona virus outbreak in the UK leading to a downturn in demand for flights, the island may see a decrease" which ignores the fact that we have already seen an immediate 50% decrease and that the more general drop in demand may help us out in the short term by freeing up capacity that would not otherwise be available. Roger Mexico
Just now, sir nige said: make your mind up....... It's not my mind it's the facts. The text referred to flights not passengers. You fell right into that one.
hissingsid
The Chief Minister is spot on there will be a big drop in air travel so the situation could be solved for the minute with just a few additional flights from another airline, hopefully when things get back to normal another airline will show an interest in filling in all flights Flybe were doing. In the meantime there is usually a boat in the morning and once the Liverpool route is serviced that will ease the problem.
Nellie
But there are two problems here, and they may require different solutions. Replacing FlyBe, to MAN, LPL and BHX, presumably on a like for like basis, will take at least a couple of weeks to organise and begin selling. We also need some capacity now. Even if it is just to Liverpool. I wonder if they've asked easyJet to put some extra capacity on, until the final solution kicks in. Even if they just reinstated flights on the days when they currently have none. Considering the capacity to North-west which has been lost, 150 seats each way, would sell pretty easily, they'd make some money, and generate some positive PR. asitis
Won't the slots be Flybe's assets ? and as such not as simple as reinstate the flights ?

There is plenty spare capacity slot wise at IoM and Liverpool and have no value. Manchester and Birmingham May be different. The only ones with value, because the airport is oversubscribed are at Heathrow.

Woody2, you continue to prove yourself thick, deluded or a wind up merchant. In simple terms. If they belong to BA they aren’t spare, if you aren’t BA

But I think the percentage of Flbe flights for Jersey on the original graphic may be wrong as well. Here's a more recent one from the BBC using CAA data from a rather useful analysis of what went wrong: Most of the figures for airports that are one both charts match near enough (they're for slightly different periods) but this only shows Jersey as having 26% not 57% and Cardiff is lower as well at 43% not 52%. Uhtred
So which will be the two airlines the fat lad is chatting to? Loganair and EasyJet (for MAN)? Ryanair (god forbid)? Eastern? SkellyAir? (One of those isn't really an airline).
