Also worth reflecting on the comments from the chief Minister that the IOM have been able to hit the ground running! If that was the case they would have had a contingency plan in place right away for the patient services contract and that clearly is not the case.

Loathe though I am to defend Quayle, even if they had a plan in place, that didn't mean that they would have planes in place.  No one knew exactly when or if Flybe would collapse.  Unless they were going to pay millions to have planes and crew waiting at Ronaldsway till ... whenever, there would always be a lag while things were finalised.  They didn't handle communications as well as they might but the time to criticise will be when we assess what they produce as their plan next week.

That's where we disagree. It's not profiteering. The demand is there, and people are paying it.

FlyBe regularly charged over £200 one way when the demand was there

They were just as bad - profiteering on there being no other options available and people’s absolute need to use their services.

Any airline given exclusive rights to serve a route would have to commit to agreed pricing limits in return for the privilege.

Probably people with hospital appointments - these costs are refunded.

No, patient transfer were charged £155 each way booked on the backend, even when there were cheaper fares available - also a massively unreasonable fee.

Price fixing in all forms shoud be absolutely resisted as a matter of principle. And companies should not be given exclusive rights to fly certain routes. That way lies cronyism, poor service and restrictive practices.

What I don’t get is now that we own the SPC why part of the contingency planning couldn’t have been giving people free boat tickets to get them to Liverpool for treatment. It could have been a solution deployed in 15 minutes.

There’s no boat to of from Liverpool in winter. It’s middle of nowhere heysham
