Non-Believer
There may be no other option than a Govt run set up. If we haven't got the numbers to make a private sector business case stack up then nobody from that sector is going to want to do it. If we want reliable airlinks on our terms and demanded/expected routes and times with our available numbers (read, "expensive equation") then we either pay through the nose for the privilege via a private operator or we do it ourselves via Govt. Which will invariably be expensive too. Cos it's our Govt, firstly.....which is one scary thought. If it's what we want to have then prepare to dig deep. It's the competence bit that's worrying.

How much is a wet lease for a dash8? Do augriny run 2 x atr? And make £8m losses currently?

One can set up a company for a few hundred quid too. then you have to find the cash to start the business. Shocked at Derek tbh.

I know it’s frowned upon on this island but it might just dig us out of this hole!

There is no good case for running a govt air service. It's a dumb idea. If it cannot be run for profit then it should not happen. And if it can be run for profit then govt does not need to be involved.

Set up with the other elements required and then get on with it. But it needs to be run by people that actually know what they are doing.

It was all the other stuff that dragged Flybe down. keep it small, realistic, professional and focused.
