The psychoactive properties of what grew around them discovered completely by accident. Some academics have claimed that these substances were intrinsic to artistic, linguistic, intellectual and spiritual/religious development in societies through millenia. The ancient shamans, gurus, witches, and such-like were the pharmaceutical scientists of their generations. No, just as having been prescribed any other drug medically would legally absolve you from driving under the influence of it. At best it might provide some mitigation. In the 'Nazi Dolphin Thread' (there's a phrase I never expected to say) I was saying about dolphins getting high on pufferfish.
