£616 +court costs to catch teenager with .006 grams of weed in their pocket and show the public what an excellent job they are doing to rid the Island from the scourge of drug?

Bargain I say.

Mmmmm l think of much more productive ways that money could have been spent! Add to that police costs hours worked etc, what another waste of public funds.

The summer before my late husband passed he was walking here off the beaten track, he came across a very small growth of cannabis, obviously for someone's personal use, l remember him telling me about it, smiling but saying quite seriously not to mention it to anyone.  Within a very short time someone had reported it to the police, to us it seemed so petty. The police seemed very good at minor incidents here. I know a few people whom were burgled a few years back, the police didn't seem to be very well organised in catching these criminals, or maybe burglary is hard to police on a small island?

Decriminalise use, then tax and regulate all drugs. Take the profit out of supplying. That is the only way forward. Crime would drop like a stone.

Posted above 5 years ago, and nothing will really change until this is adopted. Treat use/addiction as a social/health problem rather than a crime and smash the business model by removing the profit. It's so obvious that it's tempting to believe that too much money is being made in certain influential quarters by maintaining the status quo.

So you think resources should be used elsewhere instead of catching people driving under the influence? Strange take but OK.

Heres just a couple of solved burglaries on the Island in the past couple of years,i could find more examples but dont have the time.

Just get a job that's flexible enough for her to still care for her kids, and that pays enough to make it worthwhile after childcare, with previous work experience and skills unknown to any of us? Lots of those on the job tree are there?

Yes, if people got off there arses and worked for their living rather than looking for the easy buck from the state or crminality, then both they and our society would be a lot better.

There was a family near us where the mother brought up three children on her own and worked as a nurse at Nobles.

Sorry mate, your bleeding heart liberal left leaning right on wokism doesn't wash with me.

I don't believe anyone should drive whilst under the influence.

And that's excellent news that the police have caught these burglers.

Cannabis should be legalised it would prevent alot of crimes committed as the cost of buying it  would drop. It is also a medical aid for people whom suffer severe pain.

Portugal did this in 2001. It worked. It is now treated as a health issue. Common sense does not exist as the masters of the politicians will not allow it.

Another question is why cannot the policos understand this concept? If you are paid not to understand something and and ordered not to then of course this is the result and why we are here.

The arrest and jailing of this woman is stupid and achieves nothing. It demonstrates willful ignorance and stupidity.

Wanting to address the cause rather than the symptom isn't "bleeding heart liberal left leaning right on wokism", whatever the fuck that word salad of buzzwords is, it's common sense.

I agree with you, but in order to gain tax money and regulate, they will have to be legalised.....decriminalisation is not enough and doesn't cover harm reduction as supply is still in the hands of the criminals and therefore likely not pure, more cause for harm, etc.

She’s a dealer who got caught previously and who clearly still continued to deal. Slightly less sympathy than a recreational user really.

Funny thing is if she was based here

she’d be a successful business woman contributing to the economy. Law needs to change.

They decriminalized all drugs though which was a mistake. People here are only talking about soft drugs like cannabis. Portugal is pretty hideous with people openly selling coke on the streets the way most other countries street sellers sell ice cream or sunglasses.

I heartily agree Lilly.  My post was supposed to be sarcasm.  I guess I failed.
