Time To Change The Law On Drugs?

I think the fact the guy hasn't appeared in Court (even if he has pleaded guilty) means they can't give any more details.  Most of the suspended sentences appear to be for reasons you'd expect, I suspect any informants wouldn't be appearing at all - let off with a caution or whatever.  But the whole thing seems so pointless - and expensive for the taxpayer.

There also seems to be a lack of consistency in the sentencing.  1 gram = prison 1.1g = suspended sentence

It has the feel of a very heavy handed sentence to justify the huge cost in man power.

The new chief is obviously keen to fill the prison ASAP.

That May reflect things like antecedents ( previous convictions), family circumstances, cooperation … all sorts in a social enquiry report..

The media don’t tend to report the nuances.

But what is really clear is that none of the big dealers or importers seem to have been charged.  These are the lowest-hanging of fruit and the whole operation looks like an expensive waste of time and money, even before you consider the extra cost and pressure of jailing eleven people for an average of nearly 3 years.

Maybe the Police will take note of the Nobles/S100 incident last night?  Declare all criminal activity is now off (or ignored) because they prison has been filled up with guys from the pub who can get you a bit of Coke to liven up your night?

Out of interest, what happens when the Prison is actually full, which surely it must be nearing now?

Ho much does it cost to put someone in the Jurby Hilton for one year?

Maybe £80,000 per person?

Very roughly this lot will cost the taxpayer something like £3.5 million.

What does this achieve?

The "War On Drugs" never worked, other than jobs for the boys and black funds for those who cannot be named. Another rip roaring win for the politicos, double gins all round.

10 years for a bit of Charlie? Bonkers. 8 years is manifestly excessive as well.

so based on those numbers and the 8 years new sentence and add to that that  prisoners usually only serve half their time he will be getting released soon ,  i guess its one way to make room at jurby for those waiting to get in that keep having their sentencing delayed until there's space up there.

Why would MHKS have been informed?

Our Kops is one of those that think MHKs all sit in big meetings together and discuss and decide on everything on the Isle of Man, everything.
