It’s not like Doug doesn’t have form in suing the ass off people to protect his reputation. But as they say never sue a man of straw and I bet Devon even uses somebody else’s pot to piss in. But Doug may well think that Douglas Council is awash with cash and have a go. Then he’ll be yet another idiot councillor who through his own incompetence has dumped a load of crap onto the ratepayer. Again.

Why would the council be involved? This is an individual councillor posting something. It would be him getting sued and unlike MHKs we can't hide behind titles. Town hall would provide exactly zero legal protection in this case, I am quite sure.

Not really.  They haven't really been successful in the libel courts and since they have tried to use the Courts to suppress things that were true (a law has since been passed to try to stop this), it could be argued that there's not much reputation to lose.  And likely any case would have to be heard in a Manx Court before a jury and in full publicity with them being cross-examined.  This might be embarrassing.

I would argue him saying that she stole when she has not been found guilty of any such offence in a court of law is cutting it tight, especially if the two are already on a PR offensive to try and clear their names.

Maybe cutting it tight, but what if they sue and lose?  It's a very high risk strategy.  And it could be argued that 'stole' isn't being used in a legal sense, but an informal, moral one (eg money that the NHS could have otherwise used).  And no doubt there will be plenty of others who have made similar accusations - are they going to sue them as well?

How can they steal from the NHS though?

The Government awarded contracts to various suppliers. That's not the suppliers fault.

I still think they all took the piss but at the core of it is a bent Government.

They can’t sue everyone but a public official in the place where they live is a good target and a great way to make an example of someone.

No he's a dreadful target.  Either no one will notice because it's in the Isle of Man or they will but they'll feel free to comment because it's in a 'foreign' jurisdiction.  Either way it would look like they are trying to silence a democratic representative.  And a Manx trial for defamation will have all sorts of pitfalls for them.

Doug has a couple of hundred grand he could throw at this easy. But as I said Devon hasn’t got a pot to piss in so why would you bother which I’d have thought meant that DBC itself could easily be a target. It would nice to see him get a Slapp though just to shut the angry mouthy little fucker up and take that smug self satisfied look off his face. It’s not just that one post there are other posts he made where he openly referred to them as criminals despite neither being convicted of any crime.

Never mind as he’s the sort of idiot knob that keeps on doing it until he gets hit with an action. It’s defraud now.

To be honest, if Dougie asked for a bit of a whip around to help take the smug little leftie shit to the cleaners, I'd probably help out.
