Non-Believer
This Island's government grew up fat and lazy on a VAT overpayment that financed everything. It and its staff lost the skills and the drive that are the norm in the private sector. It will take a generation to get them back again. You see it everywhere in Govt and its favoured mates. Expectancy that it will happen, it'll be all right. Still. Because it's ingrained and bred in. When it doesn't "happen" the excuses start. And invariably, the taxpayers are called on to bail it out. Shake me up Judy
It'll be a wreck inside now after all these years in the dead hand of the brewery's covenant. I thought Alf was going to get a grip of planning regulations ? This has been yet another Manx disgrace. The Britannia in Ramsey still stands empty too; damp, rotten, cold and infested with rodents after ten years.

In a way that's a shame - easy pub to visit while driving an elderly person round the Island, same with the Waterfall. FWIW down here the pubs which survive offer good, often very good food. I seem to remember the LA being very average.
monasqueen
The last time we ate at LA, the food was poor. It only needed fairly minor changes though, and it would still be worth stopping at. The Waterfall used to be good, too. There have been so many like this.

Happier diner
Things had to come to a Head eventually. But it leaves a Bitter taste. I guess someone had to call time on the Brewery's intransigence. These pubs that are beyond walking distance will always find it difficult unless they offer something that its work driving for. Neither the Waterfall nor the LA did. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either.

It didn't help that the landlord was usually more pissed then the punters!
