some bizarre attitudes towards drink driving on this thread. People complaining that they might risk losing their licence because of an unrelated incident notwithstanding that they are breaking the law?

Seriously you couldn't make this shit up.

I was drawing the distinction between the diehard heavy drinker who will drive at two or three times the limit and those who once would have driven LEGALLY within the limit but who have been needlessly demonised by extremist attitudes.

So you were talking about the landlord? Not letting people drink drive is shit. Typical IOM.

Man...you guys are 20 years out of touch with regard drink driving. Thats not even a factor the last 20 years...or maybe 1% at most.

There are more serious reasons this has stuffed up.

There are more serious pertinent reasons for the failure in this instance, but the unwarranted demonisation of legal, and I stress legal within the LEGAL limit driving is a factor in general.

Whatever I think about the makeover, I do feel for Nigel Dobson. I've had a business go pear shaped and it is not a nice place to be. A very lonely place to be too. Brave to speak on the radio the way he did too. I hope he bounces back.

Why ?

"Dobbo" ran the Sound Café into the ground. The place was a fucking disgrace in the end and I for one am so glad he lost the contract for these Taxpayer owned places. The Grove was the same, if I remember rightly.

Don't feel sorry for him. Feel sorry for the people who now wont get paid. Maybe he should have kept the TT week takings to cover the lean times ?

Edit to add that The Sound Café now is spot on :)

Well you said this ...

"However, the police and the hand wringing classes have gone further with a zero tolerance attitude that is not what the law says or originally intended at all"

what do you mean by zero tolerance? Are you saying they should use their discretion when they breathalyse a driver and it gives a positive reading?

.Also trmpton said this...

Agree completely re the drink driving.

The way its enforced at the moment means the dicks who get so pissed they are a danger to themselves and others still do, and those of us who might just fancy a drink with a meal or after work don’t because if you have a completely unrelated bump, like someone running into the back of you, you will be breathalised and risk ending up in the paper, fined, without a license or a job.

I can’t remember the last drink driving serious accident.  I have a feeling it was about 29 years ago in the mountain and the law made stuff all difference.

Having said all that. I can’t suggest a better solution because although most of us can be relied on to be sensible it clearly doesn’t apply to everyone.

Which you endorsed with a like so I can only presume you are in agreement with him

I am very comfortable with the zero tolerance. This way there can be positively no "misunderstandings"

If you are an out of town pub there is always going to be a bit of a problem getting people through the doors. Cast your minds back to when Danny and Graham ran the place. They overcame that problem by purchasing two vehicles to transport people to and from the pub.

Yes. I mentioned the enterprising approach of Danny and Graham earlier in the thread. That is what the place needs.

However, "zero tolerance" solves nothing. It doesn't touch the hard core who are the problem but demonises people who are living reasonably within the law. And I stress once more, within the law.

Woolley can you explain how people living within the law are being demonised?
