Some very good words from the Muslim leader in the area, denouncing this jerk. Apparently nobody even knows him from the nearby mosques, etc.

Islamism is not orthodox Islam. This terrorist, even if he claimed to be a Muslim, is not a Muslim. ISIS are heretics, as I've said before.

There is only one islam. There are schools of jurisprudence, but only one Qur'an and only one islam.

Nonsense. There is the obvious major schism between the Sunni and Shia. There are also Sufi and hundreds of localised sects.

Islam isn't like McDonald's where it's the same everywhere. That's what ISIS and Saudi Wahabists would like us all to believe, but it isn't so.

Saying there's only one Islam is like saying there's only one Christianity, and then trying to point to some recently invented idiotic sect like Living Hope as the only true form of Christianity. Saying it just doesn't make it so. History indicates otherwise.

Various news reports say that this arsehole has been planning his attack for a year. He must not have been very bright, how does it take a year to work out that driving onto the pavement will work?

Inbreeding.

You show a common misconception. There IS only one islam. The schools of jurisprudence are totally unlike Christan sects.

Saying "there is only one Islam" is hardly different to saying "there is only on Christianity". I take your point about jurisprudence being a major factor but that only applies within the major sects, rather than between them. The same point about jurisprudence applies to the sects of Christianity, especially between historical Christianity (Catholics and Orthodox) versus the Protestants and other sects.

There are no sects in Islam.
