From BBC news...

At least four people, including a child, have been killed in a shooting at an office building in southern California, US media report.

Police said they were called to the two-storey building on Lincoln Avenue in Orange, south of Los Angeles, at about 17:30 local time (00:30 GMT).

Officers shot and wounded the suspect who was taken to hospital, police said.

The situation has been "stabilised" and there is no threat to the public, the statement adds.

Few other details of the shooting were made available although local reports said two people were wounded by gunfire.

"Horrifying and heartbreaking," said California governor Gavin Newsom on Twitter. "Our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible tragedy tonight."

The US was rocked by two mass shootings in March. Eight people - many of them Asian Americans - were killed inside spas in Atlanta, Georgia, on 16 March, while 10 people were shot dead in a Colorado grocery store on 22 March.

President Joe Biden vowed to take "common-sense steps" to crackdown on firearms, renewing his call to ban assault weapons and urging Congress to pass bills that would end loopholes in background checks.

South Carolina

Dr Robert Lesslie, 70; and his wife, Barbara Lesslie, 69, were killed in the shooting at their home in Rock Hill, South Carolina - 30 miles (48km) from Charlotte, North Carolina - along with grandchildren Adah Lesslie, 9; and Noah Lesslie, 5.

James Lewis, 38, who was working at the house was also killed. Robert Shook, another worker, was also shot and taken to hospital where he has undergone multiple surgeries.

Dr Lesslie had been married to his wife for over 40 years, according to an online biography. He was a well-known doctor and author of books about medicine.

He also founded the Riverview Medical Center and Riverview House Calls/Riverview Hospice and Palliative Care.

The suspect in the attack, who has not formally been named by police, shot and killed himself amid the manhunt, according to reports.

Former National Football League (NFL) player Phillip Adams has been identified by the Associated Press as the suspected gunman

This is extremely sad. I hope something can be done to solve this issue for good

Open carry state.  Anybody can walk into a supermarket carrying an AR15 and there is nothing anybody else can do about it until after they start shooting.  100 armed policemen standing at the checkout buying donuts couldn't do anything until after the shooting begins.

I don't think this is right. A shop can say No Guns and that is the private right of the shop. If someone refuses to follow that the shop owner can get help from the police to remove them - especially if there is a threat of violence. I think Walmart for example have banned people from carrying on their premises and have called the police on Yahoo's who can't distinguish between public and private property.

Christ 'Merica is going to hell in a hand cart.

Wanted black guy tragically shot while attempting to evade arrest, not something which justifies deadly force. And now the copper who accidentally shot him is up for 2nd degree manslaughter and is being denied bail. Bet she feels safe.

What a mess.

Indianapolis

Eight people have been killed and many injured in a shooting in the US city of Indianapolis, police say.

Witnesses heard several gunshots at a FedEx facility and one said he had seen a man firing an automatic weapon.

The gunman, thought to have been acting alone, is reported to have killed himself. Authorities said there was no further threat to public safety.

Police say several of the injured are in hospital. Flights from the nearby airport are not affected.

"As officers arrived, they came into contact with an active shooting incident," city police spokeswoman Genae Cook said, adding that it had taken place at around 23:00 local time (03:00 GMT).

"After a preliminary search of the grounds, inside and out, we have located eight people at the scene with injuries consistent to gunshot wounds. Those eight were pronounced deceased here at the scene.

Colorado Springs

BBC:

A gunman shot dead six people and then himself at a birthday party in Colorado Springs on Sunday, US police said.

The shootings took place at a mobile home park where families had gathered in one trailer to celebrate.

"The suspect, a boyfriend of one of the female victims, drove to the residence, walked inside and began shooting people at the party before taking his own life," the Colorado Springs Police Department said.

The motive for the attack is not known.

The victims were all adults, but a number of children were present in the trailer at the time.

The identities of the victims and the attacker have not yet been released.

New gun laws for Texas... it can only end in disaster.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-57239610

Texas legislators have passed a bill which would allow most people to carry concealed handguns without a permit.

Current state rules require those carrying handguns to have a licence, training and background checks.

But Texas's Republican-run senate has voted to drop the restrictions.

The bill has been sent to Governor Greg Abbott, who has said he will sign it into law - despite warnings from gun control groups that it could endanger the public.

Texas has some of the loosest gun laws in the US and already allows rifles to be carried in public without a licence.

Strange lot in Texas.
