Should they pull out, the island will be all the poorer, fewer factory trained staff (they are resisting manufacturer calls for adequate training, they believe a mechanic should be able to repair anything or salesman sell anything for example!)

In 10 years time we will all be driving electric cars. Which we will likely share or rent. The whole industry will have changed. And, for the most part, servicing will be about replacing modules.

So in many ways it probably doesn't make any difference what happens at this late stage. Like saddle repairs and cart wheels, servicing engines will be an expensive niche for a very few.

Electric cars will not happen. There is far too little lithium in the world to produce the batteries. Like ultra HD, it is over before it has started. What will happen is restrictions on the number of cars or bikes you can have, or the amount of fuel you can buy.
