Possibly by birth, presumably she's an American citizen now. Ethnicity wise she is African American, and that's where Roseanne's comments come into play.

Sorry, you can't be African American if you're born in Iran. She's Iranian American.

The question is about racism, aren't you confusing race with nationality? Her nationality is American, not sure if she was an Iranian citizen by birth as her parents were American citizens and not all countries automatically confer nationality by birth. All of that is somewhat irrelevant in the context of Roseanne's tweet though, her racial background (or ethnicity) comes from her parents and that is African American. For example, I was born in the UK so my nationality is British but my racial background (or ethnicity) is white English through my parents. Presumably you can understand that?

There's nothing racist about it. How many times was George W Bush mocked for looking like an ape? Nobody said it was racism. I actually think it's racism to insinuate that it's racism because the person is black. By calling it racism, people are themselves being racist, as they're suggesting black people in particular look like apes, which is not true. White people look just as much like apes. Because human beings are all descended from apes. It's all a load of nonsense.

I'm not saying it's racist either. You simply asked how was it racist, presumably you can see that some people would draw the connection between person of African American ethnicity and an ape? That's what some has been upset by. That's the question you originally asked and that's answer. Personally I couldn't care less about Roseanne or anything she says.

There's a subtle difference between 'racism' and 'racialism' though the distinction between them has become blurred.

Not that complicated really. Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Racialism is the belief that humans are naturally divided into races that are distinctly different. It is entirely possible to believe in racialism without being a racist.

Next?

According to this interview with Esquire Magazine originally published in 2001, she says that she has multiple-personality disorder.

Their names are Baby, Cindy, Susan, Nobody, Joey, Heather, Vangie, Roger, Martha, Mother, Piggy, Bambi, Rosey, 2, and ONE. And she isn't being metaphorical - she actually means it.

This is a long and rather fascinating article.

Quote

"We've never been comfortable saying 'I.' It's something we have to do with singletons. You know, to sound normal."

"Singletons?"

"Like you. People who don't have the gift. We consider it a gift."

Quote

A week after my last visit with Roseanne, in early March, I got a message to call.

"Hi," I said. "You wanted me to talk to one of the parts."

"I don't give a shit," Roseanne said.

"Is this she?"

"No. Everybody's always here. What do you want?"

"You said to call."

"I thought you wanted to ask me specific things."

"Ah, no," I said, a bit confused.

"Ummm," she hummed, and then she went silent. Thirty full seconds passed. I waited her out.

Finally, she spoke: "This is, ah ... I'm, ah, the person that you want to talk to. Just don't be all fuckin' geeky about it and shit."

It was a shy, quiet, halting voice that seemed to be struggling to find words. "I'm kind of like, um, the whadayacallit--the switchboard-operator type. I'm the one who knows what goes on and all that shit."

"You have something you wanted to say?"

"Yes. Um. Ah ... see, here's my little speech: I was not aware for a long time that I caused harm to other people. And the fact that you're not aware of it is so horrifying. There's not a lot of people in this world who get a chance to become conscious. There's not a lot of people who get the chance to actually take stock of what's happened and make an effort to heal. Every war and every conflict that exists in the world is just a physical manifestation of the war inside each and every one of us. We are all so divided. We need to be integrated--as males and females, as nations, as religions. For some reason, I was chosen to act out my shit on a huge fucking platform. Most people just act out on their own family, but I had to do it big."

I think MPD doesn't properly define what a personality is. I don't believe multiple personalities can exist. It's more like compartmentalisation of attributes that make up a personality (even including identity and memories) which can fluctuate back and forth giving the impression of multiple personalities.

As a singleton, I bow to your greater knowledge of this subject area.

She's going on Joe Rogan's podcast to explain herself apparently.  His podcasts are usually worth watching / listening to.

Took a few months but she's done it now. She's pretty crazy, but in a good natured way. blamed it on drugs, a misunderstanding, while simultaneously repeating loads of right wing conspiracies.
