My mistake John, I had assumed that pretty much all who dwell in the courts were members of the Devil's own's Tufty Club, my apologies to you. As bad as you think LC's post is, I find it more disturbing that so many brilliant riders from the same family are now dead because of their "love" of road racing. Especially as they were all such decent unassuming fellas. That says a lot about the sport to me.

It’s what they want to do and who are we to say otherwise?

Did you read the interview with William Dunlop about why he didn’t do TT, or the one with Steve Mercer about how he was quitting? I keep hearing stories about riders being under pressure to race. I know they’re not forced at gunpoint or anything, but there’s certainly something, for some of them.

And in respect of the TT, one might wonder how much the increased commercialisation of the event plays? All those VIP tickets sold. Man in pub the other night commented on the conditions for last Saturday's racing and wondered how much pressure the Clerk of the Course might be under to get races run from the organisers and event sponsors? What keeps them going in all probability is that history defining moment for them when they record the fastest lap. It can’t even be the money as they are not on F1 style salaries. As much as I'm with you on the ridiculous amount of memorial laps that get run (have one at TT for all 'fallen' racers ffs!) This wasn't a memorial lap, it was a parade lap showcasing machines from the past.

They mentioned quitting or about to quit but the fact is they didn't quit and they alone chose to continue, be it ego, an addiction or whatever, the choice to partake or not rests with them and them alone.
