Just goes to prove what short memories we have.

I was 7 in '64 and remember going down to the end of our terrace street with my mother a couple of times to a standpipe to fill buckets (she carried those) and my very own thermos flask!

On the rock?

Why did I read that as Ladyboys? That would be quite a thing. must be the hot weather....

Or..?

Some of those Ladybirds were biters. It was said that they did so because they were stimulated by our salty sweat. I seem to remember holidaymakers evacuating Douglas beach at one point the numbers were so great.

That would have been even more memorable for you.

Summer of 95 was exceptionally dry IIRC. I can remember being in a pub one evening after weeks of no rain when it started raining; we all went outside and stood in it for the novelty. Three years later in '98 I don't think there was a day without rain of some degree or other for the whole summer.

We implement a hose pipe ban to conserve fresh water with threats of a £2000 fine for people. Irresponsible people cause a fire at Groudle which uses up 50,000 litres and the other day 70,000 litres were used to put out a fire in Santon. The perpetrators need to be identified and fined for their stupidity.

Has it been reported somewhere that irresponsible people started the Groudle fire? If so, I've not been able to find it. I've not seen the cause reported anywhere.

Local news website says an abandoned barbecue and also glass drinks bottles were found at scene. Having a barbecue on tinder dry grass and leaving glass bottles which can act as a magnifying glass seems irresponsible to me…..
