english zloty
Road closure tonight. Then a big fat nothing to fix the situation, but one less job for TT https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/richmond-hill-closed-this-evening/
TheTeapot
Amazing. "No one has been using the middle lane and as a result the road surface hasn't broken up any further, so now we'll let vehicles use it again without actually fixing it, and we expect everything to be fine". TheTeapot
Also, 4.5 hours to remove some cones and run a roadsweeper up and down it? What?
Kitten Mittens
What's the point in removing the cones for the speed limit to remain the same. Who's completing a 30mph overtake?
kevster
They need the cones for the prom..... 1
Dave Hedgehog
Didn't they put the cones there in the first place because everyone was ignoring the speed limit and overtaking. I think we can all see how this one will play out...

The closure from 6.30pm to 11pm is to allow for the removal of the cones which have been blocking access to the overtaking lane. The Department of Infrastructure says an inspection by an independent specialist last week found that the shedding issue had considerably reduced and that warmer weather had resulted in the surface becoming more stable. The 30 mph speed limit will remain in place and unmarked police vehicles will patrol the area once the road has reopened. The DoI says the condition of the road will continue to be monitored with a view to increasing the speed limit, depending on how the surface responds. Presumably the link wording wasn't felt to be 'positive' enough. I love the explanation that 'It'll be all right now because it's got warmer.' Especially as the forecast is for it to get colder. And even though they haven't done anything. And seem unable to provide a road surface that doesn't break up under anything other than ideal conditions - something that places with more extreme climatic conditions than the Isle of Man (ie practically everywhere on Earth) seem to manage. Just out of interest, Would it be worth just starting a "Crowd Funding Campaign " just to get the Richmond Hill re-surfacing paid for, and done by Colas ?, ( the goverment pennies / allocation`s for it , i think went to / blown in a gift to the Yemen ), or do we still have enough pennies to pay for it from our £10 billion reserves, ( just asking for a friend ) ? We already do; they call it taxes.

LightBulb
How about starting a thing like "Beach Buddies" have done, but instead, have a "Road Buddies" where volunteers go out on a Sunday morning and fix / patch up roads on the island, maybe a "Richnond Hill / Fishers Hill Buddies" , or maybe a "DOI Buddies" ) ?, the possibilities are endless. 1
