Venus
It's definitely not a particularly well paid job. The Head Teacher at Ramsey Grammar has a higher salary than our Chief Minister ffs. This relatively low salary combined with the flack and personal insults that are continuously thrown at all MHKs as well as the level of 24/7 work it entails must be a big factor in why more people don't stand.

Doubt it. Anyone thinking of putting themselves up has probably realised that the main issue is the Politburo (as someone above has so eloquently described the CS). They are ungovernable. They make up the rules as they going along and to suit themselves. Anyone who dares to question the way things work are quickly 'turned' and become compliant mouthpieces. Stu is testament to that. And anway, I think the Head Teacher @ RGS is probably worth every penny.

Especially is the pay isn’t exactly stellar.

CrazyDave
How about we start the Manxforums party, ready for 2026? We just need one candidate for each constituency and a tagline. Edited March 11 by CrazyDave

That would need to go a vote after a period of consultation with all member and several external reports had been written on the pro, cons and possible negative public perceptions. The head of RGS has to be far more able and considerably better qualified than a CM.

And can't be bothered with all of the flack from the public while banging their heads against the immovable object that is said civil service. If you've made your money and can settle down to a nice life, why would you volunteer for such a poisoned chalice? You might put up with the low salary for the public good and to put something back, but the opprobrium and general hassle would be the deal breaker.
