Roger Mexico
It's that man again: Business case for TT scoreboard 'not strong enough' Temporary structure for 2022 while new case it put forward The replacement TT scoreboard won't be in place for 2022's races because Treasury said the business case for the new structure wasn't strong enough. That's from the political member in charge of motorsport on the Island, Rob Callister MHK. The proposals have now been resubmitted to Treasury ahead of next year's budget, and it's hoped the new board will be constructed in time for TT 2023. Mr Callister says a temporary facility will be used next year Which gives rise to a lot of interesting questions: Why was the previous one taken down if the replacement wasn't authorised? When was this decided and by whom? If refusal happened a while back (as it should have been for practical and legal reasons), why are we only finding out about it now? How much extra is the 'temporary' one going to cost?

How the heck were they able to take the old one down and yet have no budget or business case to replace it with anything else? They just make themselves look stupid. Now we’ll end up paying 5x more for a new one as we ‘have to have something quick’ to meet the next TT. Well if you listen to Juan Turner ,who was a scout in the dim and distant past , and others apparently it was condemmed . Like the Bridge below it !! I'm sure that a few welders and materials it could have been made safe for a few years. As for the bridge , I spoke to a well respected welder who had worked on it previously and all it needed was cutting some rusted steel out and refixing etc. Two welders inside two weeks would have sorted it. Bottom line was it was all down to lack of maintenance , mainly paint over the years , that DOI had failed to look after it . Sound familiar ?!! .

Is this not just the usual departmental method of trying to force the treasury into agreeing to some pointless waste of money vanity project, see new diesel, radar, security fence, airport scanners, etc etc

You have to realise that the vast majority of the 'vitally important' spending projects that the Manx public have ended up paying for over the last few decades can be summed up by a toddler screaming "Want new toy! Want new toy!!".

How much extra is the 'temporary' one going to cost? This smells of a Skelly parting gift to the electorate? All part of the Great Plan including a new Grandstand? How much was the proposed new Scoreboard going to be...if it's been knocked back it might be a pointer to our wider economic figures? ETA...there'll be a lot of 3x2 and plasterboard (with skirtings) coming up soon....ideal temporary Scoreboard material, til it rains 😂 Edited October 4, 2021 by Non-Believer extra bit

Ohh and Rob announced months ago that there would be temp screens up for the TT in 2022 . So this 'announcement' has clearly been delayed till after election . english zloty
Didn’t Rob promise an exciting and innovative solution would be in place for TT2022 and isn’t that what we’ve got. 🤣

Declan
Why are taxpayer's paying for a sporting event's scoreboard? Especially since we give Manx Radio thousands to tell spectators the score. If it's that vital fund it through public subscription from TT lovers, lottery grant or sponsorship from the businesses that apparently couldn't survive without the TT.

Big disappointment in Rob he knew ages ago the Scoreboard was a Dead duck and was not content to leave the old one there until a proper replacement was found and properly budgeted for , Frightened to tell the electorate the truth until after the election , unless it might effect his future political ambitions , Even this weekend a great and successful Car Rally injecting thousands into the local economy , Steam packet and Hotels , Same 2 week ago with the classic cars , world class motorcycle enduro, not a word of congratulations or encouragement from Rob who allegedly is heading up motorsport , Nothing on Manx radio either ? after all there is no one there over the weekend !and now Glover has gone motor sport will be very low down the broadcast agenda , 5 minutes ago, Numbnuts said: Skip ..apart from allegedly one part which is to be erected in the Museum. James Blonde
Just get the 'official timing partners' to pay for a couple of massive screens that can sit there.

This means that we have to look at some alternative options for 2022, but the new scoreboard should be in place for the 2023 event. Personally, I would like to see those plans in the public domain as soon as possible. As for the Poker Stars Rally I managed to watch two stages - a great event for the island's tourism calendar 1
