Well he got that right if nothing else.

I just don't think he realised it. Self-reflection isn't exactly Callister's strong point.  He'd probably still say the system was fine when trying to behave as if it had never been altered with his support.

Why he had to go seems to be that he was trying to behave as if he was Minister for Health rather than Minister for a small Department that occasionally monitored what the NHS got up to.  Obviously civil servants don't like Ministers behaving as if they were Ministers anyway, but the current system is a complete nonsense with no one knowing who is really responsible for what (even the CQC didn't know who they were working for).  Which presumably suits the bureaucracy just fine.

Rob Callister seems to be channelling Rob Callister at the moment.  Manx Radio has not one but two 'news' stories.  In one he says:  Manx Care has to be 'uniformal' which doesn't appear to even be a modern word and even if it was doesn't what he thinks it does.  He seems to be suggesting that the Minister should work more closely with Manx Care - ie the whole split that they were so enthusiastic about isn't working.  You can't have DHSC and Manx Care simultaneously separate and integrated.

Callister second pronouncement was on Onchan Commissioners.  Apparently the village has gone to hell since he stopped being one and it's all their fault (even though most of them are the same as when he was there).  Apparently people should consider standing - a call that might have been more useful two years ago, in the run up to the elections, rather than two and a half years before the next ones.

Manx Care has a mandate from DHSC and a budget to carry out the work.

DHSC is supposed to develop policy and do strategic thinking about health and social care.

Your point being?

Another angry idiot who just seems to turn up for a fight. My point being this is a thread about Rob Callister and that’s a story about Rob Callister that some people (obviously not you) might be interested in.

On the whole Rob Callister has brought ridicule both on himself, and to the office and role of being an MHK. The blogs, total reliance of social media and exposure on certain Facebook sites hasn’t helped. Still at least he hasn’t adopted Jason Moorehouse approach to publish questions he is asking for consultation from his adoring electorate.

Do I think he is totally useless? No, he isn’t but the MHK/MLC gene pool isn’t exactly overflowing with talent. I certainly don’t think he was totally incompetent, let’s face it there are worse and certainly worse as in incompetence by civil servants who cost the taxpayers, by poor decision making.  I think there was a lot of power battles and ego, with a clash of personality within the department, both civil servants and politicians.

Nor should he be he wasn’t given a chance and the three that complained about him are as useful as chocolate fireguards.   Alf has still not appointed a Minister for Health it will be interesting to see who he puts up next , anyone taking the job is mental.    It shows how important and how hard working these Ministers are are when Hooper is running two departments one, the health department, being arguably the most important of the lot.
