That state of affairs is just the way it has been allowed to deteriorate to? A deliberate ploy?

Any developer would have proceeded in the same manner. However, we don' texpect our Govt or LAs to be so mercenary?

Is this what happened to Manxonia in Port St Mary then ?

Why do they get to invest our rates in property development schemes. Who gives them that authority ?

Surely this must be against some law.

Unfortunately not.

Well there should be. LA reform very much overdue. Most of them do not have the skills necessary to undertake these projects surely.

Unfortunately, even in a reformed southern authority, if the PE element had stymied the Manxonia element, the PSM element would have cried 'foul'.

Outside investigation would be the only remedy?

Or amalgamate them and reduce the numbers of the commissioners. Throw in Arbory as well.

IIRC correctly, it wasn't the PSM Board. They had discussed the purchase but not reached a decision. The then Town Clerk took it upon himself to progress the purchase without either authority from the Board or building survey in place, though I think there was a valuation.

When all this was discovered, along with the costs of the necessary repairs, the TC resigned and departed with an undisclosed golden handshake (and a golden shower for the ratepayers).

Some work was done but outstanding work is not economically viable and a buyer is now reportedly found for the property with an overall loss to the ratepayers of @ £47k. All this disgrace is already on a dedicated thread elsewhere.

Why  not just demolish it with the proviso that any replacement has to be of a similar style?

Given the photos that Frank has taken I think this is the only realistic option as the internal floor is clearly well below the level of the outside seating area making it both unworkable & inaccessible for wheelchairs etc

I think saving the Cosy Nook was less about saving the old building and more to do with stopping some characterless/hideous glass monstrosity built in its place.

The building isn’t really fit for purpose as a Cafe/restaurant, there is barely enough space for the staff let alone the customers. It would be better off as holiday accommodation or similar.
