On The Bus
How much is all this shit going to cost the ratepayers of Port Erin?

It was the quaintness of the old place that kept it popular. Unlike the old Sound longtail infested shithole. the Cosy Nook was a lovely café. Just needs a make over. It's the classic Manx marketing campaign: come and wonder at all our old, quaint stuff! Which we're knocking down. Come and enjoy our differences - while we try to make the place look like where you've just come from. They can't even be bothered to make sense. As long as there's an excuse to throw money at the construction industry, it doesn't really matter what it is for. It's evidence of the great care they've taken over the mock-up that the main building in the background was demolished about a year ago. 3

asitis
I can see this running for years before anything is done, another Fort Island Hotel ! I can however see valid concerns being raised by the residents of the small road leading to those few car parking spaces, when putting something which has the potential to attract many more people than latterly. It is a shame the old place was left until it was unserviceable before anyone thought to do something.

The same ones who had their Commissionere do a big song and dance about why their costs were (already) so much higher than neighbouring Rushen. Is it the fashion among local authorities to saddle their ratepayers with debts from white elephant projects? Ramsey Courthouse, Manxonia House (PSM), Castletown Fire Station etc.

GD4ELI
Effing horrible design. If Port Erin has that much money (which it doesn't) then build a new building just like the old one but 1m higher up with a sea wall. Effing horrible design. Derek Flint
This is one of the things that really frustrates me about LA’s. It’s like Ramsey and the Courthouse. And wasn’t there another building in Port St Mary? If they just stuck to emptying the bins, sweeping the streets and cutting the verges we might all not be paying even increasing rates up here. I just don’t get all the other stuff like housing, amenity sites etc being run by them. This could be done more effectively and cheaply from a central Centre. Add that lot to my manifesto!
Manxberry
Seems like something the government shouldn't be involved in. Cough Ramsey Courthouse Cough.

It's all to do with local authority votes and popularity, rivalry and willy-waving between themselves and central Govt and the odd ego. A heady mix.
