It isn’t really a key tourist asset (we don’t have many tourists anyway). Although MNH might think that. And it is just a lease at the end of the day. To be honest as a business you’d make more money putting a Peel breakwater style kiosk in there selling hot food, bacon baps and coffee. It’s only government that’s tried to turn it into some sort of fine dining establishment in one of the most inaccessible spots in the IOM. This is why they will likely find a new tenant difficult to secure as between the rent and staffing requirements there won’t be much scope for profit running it like it is. And that’s assuming hospitality will be back to normal next year and it probably won’t be. My guess would be they’ve asked for a rent reduction to continue for the next 5 years under the extension and this is all part of a process to see if there’s anyone out there prepared to pay more then they’ve offered for the next 5 years. StCatherine
Looks like the port Erin by-election is going to be about the Cosy Nook. Non ratepayers trying to get on the Port Erin board en masse to fulfill their nostalgia fix at others expense including the photographer who runs the “save the cosy nook page”.
Gizo
Who would that be so as to not vote for him?

It's a bit odd that of the six candidates for two seats, only two actually live in Port Erin. But then there's been Commissioners who lived in Ramsey before. GreyWolf
Isn’t the Swindells fella the owner of foraging vintners ? He might bring a business head to the table, obviously didn’t fancy a walk in place where he lives in psm can’t blame him for that.

His two businesses in PE and one uses the cosy nook, but I see the seconder is the “mayoress” of Castletown and PE commissioner also and I recall all for knocking the cosy nook down. And with the positive upturn in Castletown I’d say Swindells is a good vote for PE.

The furthest walk between two of them is an hour at most, yet they live in four local authorities (if you still split arbory and rushen). It's also possible that the two who do live in Port Erin might actually be in Rushen, as they're both up Bradda way. It is bonkers.

Don't disagree, on balance I'd say Arbory's better with those than Castletown/Malew. Both with PE addresses are in the boundary though (I checked because none of them would be even funnier). Mr Helmut Fromage
How on earth is a derelict cottage still causing arguments in a small town that has massively reinvented itself through private enterprise over the previous few years- Summer evenings in Port Erin are a massive success- from teenagers to pensioners it’s become popular and a rare success- but the whole place apparently depends on a fucking throwback that hasn’t contributed to the upturn in people visiting. In the previous couple of decades the Hotel School was the future- failed and demolished Marine Biology was the future- about to be demolished Cosy Nook Rat Farm - not the future - demolish

Interfering in local decisions & pushed a protected building order

The people doing this should be prepared to buy the buildings if they want them preserved instead of halting progress at every turn.
