John Wright
The first motorway in UK opened, the Preston Bypass. 8 miles from Bamber Bridge to Fullwood. Two lanes in each direction, no speed limit, no crash barriers, the carriageways separated by a central reservation planted with a privet hedge. Later incorporated into the M6. For years a bottle neck, with the M6 at either end being built as 3 lanes. Then widened to 3 and now, mainly 4 lanes.
RIchard Britten
Only drove on the M6 at the weekend. I do like the way they are using the "hard shoulder" as exit lanes now.
