He is correct, taken from IOM Today

The project first began in August 2018 with work due to be completed on the £4.2 million refurbishment by May 2019.

In August 2019, the main pool reopened but the play pool and flumes remained closed.

That’s not for two slides as he stated though.

He is talking bollocks, like I said.

Looks like it’s not just David Ashford who is a self proclaimed specialist on every subject.

Where does it say anywhere it was 4.2m for two slides as you stated?

It doesn’t.  The whole refurb including both pools and the slides is quoted as 4.2m

How about just admitting you were wrong?

From memory - there was major refurbishment to include a large amount of retiling (questions were raised about the quality of some of that workmanship too, IIRC). There were issues before and after with the moveable (up and down) floor of the main pool as well, presumably they've been rectified.

Many tales abound about the business with the slides including specifications, contracts, suppliers, damage in transit but I can't vouch for the veracity of any of it.

There was an approach to Tynwald for a supplementary funding of @ £227k to resolve the slide issue
