Thanks for that Roger, but I have heard there is another firm called Matchtech who seem to have a lot of input into the DOI supplying them with the “ expertise “ they require to manage the prom and other projects If this I information is correct they have not got of to a very good start. I wonder how much money has left this Island on consultants without any Taxes or NI contributions.I would bet that they contribute nothing to the economy and take all they can get,

Burroughs ran a 'ghost' office on the Island for long enough.

I suppose it is called taking the piss, but the Isle of Man Government didn't seem to care. There have been questions in the House about all the money flowing to the consultant, but Tony Brown the then Chief Minister then, was never one to admit the Government were more than a little dozey.

Matchtech appear to be an 'engineering recruitment specialist', so they may have just been involved in sourcing extra people (there are currently three jobs) and possibly providing services for contractor.  They are also part of the Gattaca[1] Group, which does project management, but not in civil engineering that I can see.

[1]  A classic case of choosing a company name because it sounds cool without picking up all the cultural references.

It's one big fuck up. The contractor is out of control as no one on the employer's side (the Government) has a fucking clue how to control them. The money will just keep pouring out of the coffers.

The Isle of Man Government needs to employ someone to get a grip of the contract.

If they already have then they need to fuck 'em off and get someone else.

(please excuse the effin' and blindin')

I admire your restraint...

The companies doing the work (without actually doing much work) have copped on, very early on, that this is the biggest contract of their lives. So what if the common people are disgruntled? In a few decades, everybody would have forgotten what a shambles this has all been, while their families' futures are all set up to be very comfortable. I'm told it's all gonna look so good, tourists would love to visit, until you realise it's so much cheaper to visit other countries, with better food, culture, and weather, for less than half the price.

We truly are the Island of Spun Bullshit.

Only here could 2 miles of seafront promenade in a major town (for the area) be reduced to a diorama from the siege of Leningrad and win an award as though it's a successfully completed project.

I'd bet there's a picture of this, proudly hanging on a DOI office wall to invite congratulations somewhere too.

Probably Harmer's.

The Global Light Rail Awards are probably a bit like the IoM Excellence ones, where you nominate yourself. Pointless meaningless back slapping dribble. Anyway, i've had a look at their website http://mainspring.co.uk/global-light-rail-awards/ and I think I might email geoff@mainspring.co.uk and ask him what exactly it was about the project that led this organisation to highly commend it.

Actually, before i send an email, let me just check my facts. When did the prom work start? Been that I long I don't have a clue. And how long was it supposed to take? And how far behind is it according to our government? We all know it's further behind than they say, but I'll stick with official for now. Ta!
