2112
This Promenade works is quite something. Not content with closing down most of the Promenade and screwing up livelihoods, which have been decimated even more due to Coronavirus. The DOIdiots are closing Broadway up to Derby Road for 5 months. I feel sorry for the businesses, restaurants and takeaways. The Mannin Hotel must be in despair, head in hands. https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/broadway-to-shut-for-five-months/ Yes access is granted to properties but a diversion to get to other area of Broadway and Victoria Road. Wasn’t Broadway dug up not so long ago? Or is it a permanent DOIdiots job creation scheme?

Wasn’t Broadway dug up not so long ago? Or is it a permanent DOIdiots job creation scheme? The whole thing is totally mental! It's 20 months since they started, and apart from the pavement outside the old Villiers site, and bits of the pink tramlines near Derby Castle, nothing is actually finished. Most of it is nowhere near finished. Yet, they just dig up more and more sections. Not only is Broadway being closed, but we're all now driving, single file, on the pavement at The Esplanade, so they can put in the bit where the tramlines will converge to single track. That will take months and months to complete. And Harmer seriously thinks this will be finished by next March? He's just swallowed more lies and bullshit from his officers, who just want to kick the can down the road, and put off their day of reckoning. monasqueen
It's another case of... You couldn't make it up. They have got lots of modern digging and roadlaying equipment. How long do they need ??? In 1893, with little more than shovels, and probably a few sticks of gelignite to clear some of the rocky bits, the Victorians managed to build the Manx Electric Railway, AND adjacent roadway, between Strathallan and Groudle. Work began in Spring 1893, and the service started on 3 September 1893. Oh, and in the time, they managed to build the car sheds at Derby Castle, too. Why can't they now manage to get a few hundred yards of road and track relaid the other way, through to the Sea Terminal, in less than what seems like a decade? 3
TheTeapot
When they open it in 4 months 2 weeks they can tell you how great they are for finishing it early.

It caused more than enough road chaos and inconvenience to build it (which is where you probably think it was dug up before). You can still access the hotel. You might have to walk fifty yards. Hardly life changing. The restaurants on Broadway are mainly busy through bookings rather than walk ins. Home Run pizza are mainly delivery. Its three and a half months too
