They were actually only runners up (probably out of two). Burroughs seem to have been the people who had the brass neck to put it forward (they certainly collected the bit of pointless plastic). Maybe they were hoping for more work from people who wanted a tramway and didn't have access to the internet.
majkul
Not one of them gives a flying f***. Not the guys at the top, not the guys pretending to do any work. Their wages are guaranteed, no matter how bad they are at what they're supposed/pretending to be doing. Yet here we are, those working in any of the businesses in the "war zone" that is the main thoroughfare of our capital city, s****ing ourselves, not knowing if we'll have a job tomorrow/next week/month. But who cares? The lampposts are going to look amazing when they're eventually done. 3

quilp
Majkul was being sarcastic...
majkul
Yep, my sarcasm will probably be around longer than my job. But the upside is that millions of tourists will be coming over here to see the wonderful promenade, all year round, rather than just for a few days each year. That's why they're doing it, right? Definitely not to line each other's pockets, it's for the island's best.

thesultanofsheight
The papers are now saying that certain road closures are to be extended in order to ‘minimize confusion’ it doesn’t say whether the confusion is ours or theirs though! http://www.iomtoday.co.im/article.cfm?id=54005
Numbnuts
Interesting to note that the minutes of the strategic board meeting presumably held when arranged on 10th January are still not forthcoming . Clearly the typist is as slow as the workers involved or the contents are too damming that there scared to publish them. Maybe both ! Was very surprised at the December minutes to see how much they allowed into the public domain . Must have been another board meeting too at the beginning of this month with again nothing forthcoming ..Interesting days ahead .
On The Bus
It looks like they've abandoned the expensive Chinese Granite paving and instead are going for some grey block paving instead. Have to admit the UK guys they've got in to do it are cracking on with it at a rate of knots!

monasqueen
To be fair, they've continued working in some of the most hellish weather conditions imaginable.
On The Bus
Notice the rail track boys are back today as well. Funny how there seems to be a big push to get it ready for the loss-making horse trams! Shame the same urgency isn't shown the rest of the time!
