Gladys
Tesco's is flooded with lots of cars in the car park half submerged! Still letting cars in though.
WTF
if only they'd have fitted pipes that could move water when they re-re-did peel road??
sarahc
Not a lot you can do when the river bursts.
2bees
It's a shame for the NSC and gymnastics place, although I am sure there'll be loads of people eager to help clean up.
WTF
not at all. very very bad though all over the place.
JessTickle
For anyone travelling south, it seems to be carnage on Fishers Hill (can only see the Port Erin side rather than the Castletown side) Traffic is backed up all the way to the top and probably over onto the Castletown side and beyond, so avoid if you possibly can. No idea what Gansey is like now, but it was pretty grim around 5pm
oldmanxfella
if only they'd have fitted pipes that could move water when they re-re-did peel road?? Well we know much better than those annoying Victorians with their silly drains and their pipes.

As much as I like DOI bashing, where did you expect the pipes to run to? The river burst on peel road, hills meadow, back of fire station, Tromode road, Tromode estate etc etc. Draining a road when it rains a bit is one thing, stopping a river bursting its banks is something completely different.

Did you see the height of the river though earlier in the week? That, plus the water table is so high at the moment no amount of drainage will help. It was unprecedented today though. I've seen the river coming in by Mylchreests high before, but nothing like tonight. It was pouring through the gaps in the stone wall running along Castletown Road towards the QB. Couldn't see in the dark but guessing the whole field must have flooded between Saddle Rd and the access road.
trmpton
Sorry, but anyone who thinks this just needs better drains clearly wasn't out in it and needs their head read. http://www.manx.net/tv/mt-tv/watch/75238/flooding-douglas?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=facebook
sarahc
The Dhoo has been high for weeks. Are you landing on fitting holes into rives now?
PhotoMan
Unfortunately, parts of the Peel Road surface were below the height of the river yesterday tea time. Once the river overlaps or breaks its bank, the water will obviously flow to the lowest accessible point. No amount of drainage can help when we suffer freak weather like we did yesterday afternoon.
