Driver2020 Posted December 30, 2020 Share Posted December 30, 2020 I have seen a lot of recycled material made on island and the material made at Stoney mountain used to be very good, but all they seem to do now is transport the excavated material from the prom to foxdale crush it even smaller and send it back for the sub base so the shite they dig out goes back in even smaller. Non-Believer Posted December 30, 2020 Share Posted December 30, 2020 (edited) I'm aware that a number of groundwork and utility contractors engaged on Govt jobs have for some time expressed their concern about the Type1 and Type2 aggregates being sourced from DOI's Stoney Mountain quarry, which they are effectively obliged to use on Govt jobs. The distinctive "yellow" aggregates are too fine, their coarse Type2 more resembles the finer Type1 that you'd find anywhere else; Stoney Mountain's own Type1 is just fine sand/dust. In short, both grades of their aggregate are felt to be too granular and not substantial enough for load-bearing engineering work. This concern was first raised as it was used for the foundation layers under the roads and pavements at the new Clagh Vane estate at Ballasalla and subsidence was being predicted there, the concerns were naturally dismissed by management. IF they're using the same stuff under the surfaces on the Prom then this may already be behind the subsidence being discussed?
