TheTeapot
PEEL- ST JOHN - FOXDALE - AIRPORT - CASTLETOWN SERVICE 8 Wish they'd put a late night one of these on so I could go drinking in Peel without going via Douglas. Or the other one that goes to Port Erin for Peel folk to enjoy wonderful summers evenings down there. Even just on a Friday or Saturday night.

Still adds up though, say for two adults and a couple of kids, though the kids are a bit cheaper.

It would be worth a limited period trial on a "use it or lose it" basis. Some of the late Night Owl buses run much of their routes empty or almost empty, so why not just try something different? Maybe just start it with one of the minibuses to keep the costs low.

Maybe reduce the number of buses that go to Willaston/Pulrose and Onchan. That should leave some availability

Gizo
Here’s a radical thought, can the existing northern tram line be useable for modern trams? I was thinking, say at peak periods per day commuter trams from Ramsey to Douglas which alight to a cute ickle platform outside the Sefton for instance. The noddy trams can run during the rest of the day.. was this ever thought of?
Nellie
The new line is being built to a specification which would handle the size and weight of the MER trams, and allow them to reach the Sea Terminal. However, it not clear how the extensive (and expensive) overhead required, would be accommodated, and of course funded. Also, would the Railway Inspector, and other authorities, be likely to permit the MER trams, which are much faster and heavier, to run down the middle of the Prom, mixing it withe cars, buses and pedestrians. I think we can all guess the answer to that one. Edited April 19, 2019 by Nellie 1
Gizo
Say if you had a modern tram, say similar to Manchester. Is that compatible or huge capital investment?

Knowing how the department has been run recently I would expect a series of brand new bespoke trams specifically designed and shipped at huge expense would be required, only for them not to work correctly on arrival.
Non-Believer
Horse Tram season start now delayed (iom Courier). Due to start on April 25th however this date will now see the start of non-passenger-carrying trials only. Passenger services TBA. Anybody surprised? Gizo
130 odd years ago the victorians did incredible engineering, the trams included however, isn’t it time this period did their own legacy for the next 100 years instead of buffing up a bit of old victoriana tat.

Don’t understand how anyone thought it could be ready by then, considering the rate the new track is being laid. They’d have to tarmac around the tracks as well before they could run a passenger service.

This period/generation only does short term disposable. Our whole global consumer-driven economy revolves around it. We rape the planet for resources to do it in order to build "greener" products and then claim we are saving the planet by doing so. The real driver is that some people get very, very rich in the process.
