Can someone who drives a small digger so drive a small dump truck? Man a is in digger, filling dump truck with rubble. Man b is sitting in dump truck while it is filled. Took about 15 minutes. Man b then drives off in dump truck I assume to empty it somewhere far away. He doesn't return while I am there. During that time man a is sat in digger on his phone as he has nowhere to put stuff. Only ever one working at a time. Surely that is two men doing one man's job? Typical digger driver I am afraid. They are glued to their seats and will refuse to do none digger driving work. This is a global phenomenon brought about, and proliferated by, weak supervision!

Will they run out of rubble before the he fills the hole?

How do you know he wasn’t on the phone to his foreman asking where he’s got to dig next?

Don't they have a schedule of work to work to like a private site would. He was 100 percent sitting doing nothing until the dumper came back. NoTail
Is it legal to spend money twice on the project? Heads should roll. The horse trams should stop where they are and let's just finish the f***ing job. 1

Yes heads should role and majority of those heads should be CEO of DOI and those under him but that's not happening. The true cost of this will never be known as when commencing work it was stated, if I remember correctly, that any overspend would come out of DOI 's budget so who knows !!?? One thing I do know is DOI shouldn't be let loose anywhere near a contract of this size ever again. They will still be snagging this 18 months from now . NoTail
I take your point Numbnuts but this charade has gone on too long. According to reports Tynwald stated 5he trams must go all the way and paid for that. The money has been spent (probably 3x over) they have got to Broadway. If tenders for the next bit only start in summer to be approved by a new Tynwald after September. I think it is time to call it a day. Just finish what there is now. How can taxpayers pay twice for something?
Non-Believer
Black has confirmed that the job is open chequebook. There never was a "set" or realistic budget (or timescale), it always was an open-ended journey with Tynwald having no option but to keep feeding the animal on demand to fend off public and national embarrassment until such time as it is completed, which will be another story altogether. With the aforementioned snagging (18 months? Ho ho), this will go on for a lot, lot longer yet. Were this job being managed by the private sector, some people would have been dismissed long ago. Still, Beamans' is yet to come too. Perhaps that may sting some people into taking some responsibility.

They need put them the whole length of the prom just to annoy him.

How can taxpayers pay twice for something? The problem is that there is a cost to finish off what will be a useless strip on land between Broadway and the Sea Terminal and no doubt a cost to maintain it so the cost of actually doing what they have already been given the money to do may not be that much different than the alternatives. What can it be used for?. If it does not go ahead we will have narrowed the promenade and lost parking and have a ridiculous strip of something (cultural walkway ,Tynwald crazy golf course) where the trams should be. The block paving of the roundabouts should just be scrapped, that will not last 6 months and will look crap. The CEO and a few others should be getting capabilities procedures against them for this mess in my opinion.
