That needs to happen but its not going too. You so know that CS are bullet proof as far as being sacked or moved on. And then you have the Chief Secretary to defend there ineptitude . They do need to work out where their recruitment falls down because clearly there's many in DOI incapable of carrying out their tasks and that starts with the CE Nick Black. Best we can hope for is they being reigned in massively . The design and engineering contracts need looking at also as clearly there incompetent also. Can we hope for a strong capable CM this time as the current one has been useless to help sort the issues out ??

Beaman's identified much of the DOI management as essentially being unfit for purpose.

Daphne Caine MHK has referred to the DOI as being dysfunctional in Tynwald Court.

When stuff like that happens, you know there's an understated problem.

Unless I'm much mistaken, CEO Nick Black was previously "retired" from Weights and Measures on "stress" grounds. Which begs the question, how was he ever going to cope with heading the most unwieldy Dept on the Govt list?

Which it’s not, no more than Manx Radio is not commonly referred to as the Nations Propoganda Mouthpiece or Tynwald as Tinpotwald.

Or Peter Layman not being commonly referred to as Peter Lazyman

Thank you for that, Tim.

What are your post-election plans? Maybe a nice holiday in Hawaii or a long city break?

Worked tirelessly behind the scenes keeping the hospital running, constructing two injection hubs in 14 days, setting up the method by which folk and cars are disembarking in minutes. That was all done in about 5 days.

The prom all falls on Harmer, he instructed it be done from both ends in half the time the engineers originally proposed before the detail design was complete with less resource than the project team said was needed

Ps also oversaw the census and quite a few other sucesses

The delusions of grandeur of the prom scheme preceded Harmer.

Indeed. Gawne was initially sweet-talked into this with promises of Infrastructure glory. This was somebody's Great Project that had to be progressed at any cost, financial or truth included. Precisely whose is yet to be established.

I can’t see my life changing in any way whatsoever post-election. Will wait for this Covid stuff to settle down before making any travel plans.

What about yourself?

The bit where they "forgot" to turn the mic off on Gawne needs saving for posterity!

We get that you work for this incompetent department and your loyalty is admirable, but that does not excuse just how terrible they are

It’s easy to criticize and it’s quite understandable how just looking at the sensationalist headlines it appears that the DOI are guilty of mismanagement.

Yes mistakes have been made, as they are in all walks of life, but there appears to be a will ( a wish if you like), exemplified by your comments, that the Department should fail in their endeavours to improve the infrastructure on the island.

Its a populist, rabble rousing view and a cheap shot considering the current constraints that the Department has to operate within.

You should amend your moniker to suck up to government. The appalling record of the department of incompetence makes it easy to criticise.
