Tim Baker is a plucky guy, and has featured on two video interviews today, with Manx Radio and Paul Moulton Isle of Man TV.

But I feel that via him, he is being walked over. It doesn't instill confidence for the future.

I agree with him that it is a hugely challenging project for the Isle of Man and tests the ability of the Government to get major projects done.

For those and many, many reasons, the project should have been carried out in manageable stages.

Obviously. Clearly. And obviously again.

It is vert reminiscent of the huge clusterfuck that was and is the IRIS project.

I don't think it's come as a surprise to many as it was widely predicted on here as to how it would turn out.

For context Edited to add:  Baker very much a man waving and drowning in that interview.

Would love to see some comments from civil engineers, the bridge at Pulrose is more complex than that mess on the prom.

Its not a complicated job. Its basic practices carried out on any main road anywhere where dwellings exist. They have managed to balls it up by lack of detailed plans in early months which led to the jumping around of the workforce till plans could be produced. Zero voids found which was the main reason mentioned that it was needed to be done. Auldyn were granted the contract so clearly not enough due diligence was applied to be sure they had the manpower and ability to carry it out. Nobody , and I mean nobody is surprised at this epic DOI failure in the handling of this contract. Apart from anything else the cost to businesses on the Prom is massive. Oh and Baker hasnt a clue about the workings of the contract and whats involved in carrying it out. Early December if we are lucky .

Comedy Gold.

Moulton running rings around him. That Workman dancing in the background makes that video even better.

As Mr Baker is supposed to be an Accountant by profession, I would assume that whilst he isn’t a civil engineer or is experienced in this type of construction, I would like to think Mr Baker would have an ounce of intelligence to understand the cost implications and possibly the contractual implications.  Perhaps the Contractors are joining Paul Moulton in running rings around him?

The report on IOM Meats is pretty damming too.  Nobody has heard of good governance, it would seem. The upshot is the taxpayer spends £2m supporting the meat plant so it can export Manx meat elsewhere, not for the Manx market, and the regulator is regulating a thing in which it is the majority owner and provides the majority of the board.

You’ve logged in to the wrong account, you use this one to praise anything the Government touches, you should be supporting Mr Baker and sharing your dismay about how he’s been treated.

Wasted on you obviously.

On 30th June Baker states via Manx Radio that the works will be finished in August.

On 9th July Manx Radio states that it will not be finished in August and basically they do not know when it will be finished.

So did he not tell the truth on 30th June or was he not told the truth?. If the former then he should resign now, if the latter then the officers who told him need to go now.

These fantasy press statements from DOI seem to go right back to the start of this project. Back in April 2019 the then minister said

The work hailed by Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer who said the promenade refurbishment was ’making really good steady progress’

He added: ’It is on time and on schedule at the moment which is good news because it is really important to get things moving and its also the first time we’re also installing something that will be used for the future.’

This at a time when the project was already several weeks behind

No.

Everyone knew it would be a disaster before it started, that the plans were daft, and that it would overrun in both time and money.

All anyone normal wanted was a functional road.
