Here comes the next one!!

Isn’t that roundabout only fairly new anyway (Balthane)?

ps - Parliament street is a right state about 7 years after they did it. Road breaking up, crossing outside bank falling apart, red tarmac patched with black.  Just put some proper simple roads down please .

Why does this appear to be a standard road junction? What's happened to the Crayonistas? Can someone check in on them?

Amongst the many, many other, another good reasons to have carried out the Promenade in sections, if some innovation or other is found to be unworkable, then they could change it for the upcoming sections.

For example I can see a situation where such as the crossings simply don't work as expected and the whole shebang has to be dug up to put in traditional zebra crossings and lights. Maybe ditto roundabouts?

Don’t encourage them.

Press release from DOI - January 2022

Further to multiple accidents and near misses on the Douglas Roundel’s and after extensive consultation with Jim in the Rovers supported by research trips to Bali, Alaska, The Sudan and Dubai, it has been decided to trial a new concept in road safety and traffic management.

The new “ditto roundabouts” will be unique to the Isle of Man and sport a new, revolutionary (do you see what we did there?) double decker design with traffic alternating on arrival to the junction between the top and bottom deck.  Ditto - two identical roundabouts one directly above the other.

As you approach the junction in any direction a large padded barrier will whiz back and forth channeling traffic onto the appropriate “Ditto” an idea which is credited to our design engineer Geoff who previously came 73rd in auditions for Total Wipeout.

Due to the complex and extensive program of works we hope to cause maximum disruption to all residents and business and will need to undertake several more research trips to Amsterdam before confirming dates for the commencement of works.  These trips will be part funded by our fans at Panel Craft who are keen to see us implement more new ideas.

In the meantime the DOI would like to apologise to anyone injured or who has had a vehicle damaged on the Roundels and anticipate we will be in a position to issue a further update just after England win the World Cup.

It’s coming home

how do the senior managers at DOI still have a job?

Because it's the Civil Service's train set and neither politicians nor the GMP get a say in what goes on?

What's happened to the bypass road ? I thought the cottage was demolished to let it join ?

The artist needs to go and take a look then, as the the road is where the red path and child cyclist is and the grass beyond ! !

Did you see all the pictures? It makes a bit more sense then. It also seems suspiciously uncomplicated for the DoI.

Edit - I'm a bit unsure of what is happening with railway terrace. That's where that red path is, and the houses are currently empty so I figured they'd be getting knocked down, but they're still on one picture. Maybe they're just knocking one of them down.

Edit 2 - more pics here

The cost to the taxpayer of creating this bypass so that Dandara can sell 300 odd houses has been astronomical. I’d assume Railway Terrace will go too. At our cost. Just to create a massive junction. Another 2 years of temporary traffic lights at least too just like the way in to Ballasalla.

What is it?

There is zero reason  for them to imposs massive disruption for this work.

Dig the ducting for the lights over a weekend period (temporary lights for ~48 hours), other than that it's all demolition or new road building that just need to link in to the existing highway (again no need to disrupt traffic flow).

Then plane of the current road surface and lay new tarmac on top - another single weekend for that.

It will be interesting to see what they actually choose to do.

I’m saying it must be huge. They bought that house at over market value just to knock it down. They’ll probably drop Railway Terrace to widen the road. Then there’s this scheme and all the traffic lights and layout changes. There needs to be transparency around what it’s actually costing us to line Dandara’s pocket.

Oh, you missed the 'must be' out. I'm sure it will,  but just to correct you, Dandara bought Grant's cottage.
