Thanks - so a small white circle would have done the job just as well.

It would and why it was decided to use that arrangement is mystifying, what the philosophical reasoning behind it is we'll probably never know but it's there now and hopefully after a problematic start drivers confidence using it will increase with their awareness.

New CM recently who seems a bit tougher than previously, talking tax rises etc or reduced public services due to Covid costs

It's not mystifying at all.  If they'd put a simple roundabout or lights there, people would wonder what the point of the whole project was.  Similarly the whole multi-coloured stop shop that the rest of the Prom has become.    The whole project has to look wild and wacky because otherwise it would be even more obvious that it was basically make-work to keep lots of DoI civil servants in a job and give millions to contractors.

With the exception of the actual testing, which due to current backlogs should be outsourced, they just need better systems like a private business would have.

Even the ability to book a driving test online rarely works.  At least 90 percent of what they do up there could be online or automated.

I don't disagree, but there comes a point where we automate everything at great cost but there are no jobs for people to do. We then end up having to pay people a high universal basic income, or something similar.

Too much deadwood clogging up the system. Clear it out and the system will work better.

Clearing people out only makes things worse, unless you have a way of getting the work done.

I troubled them for their line and verse on the roundels so I have it for any future issues. This is what they sent. Also available to view on the FOI page.

The bottom of Broadway/The Promenade is a "non-priority" junction?

It's simple, you just don't replace the person who was doing the job before as it becomes a non-job. If the cost of automation was greater than the cost of employing someone then I'd agree.

Welcome to civil servant pace of work and assessment. IIRC, one Dan Davies had IoM Govt headcount reduction as part of his remit within Govt during this administration? Yet it's increased by 400+.

Makes one wonder what it would have been if he hadn't been reducing it.... 😉

Car manufacturers don't seem to see it that way though?

Yes, privatise the process. Jobs that don't need to be done by government should be provided by the private sector. Buses for example.
