quilp
Is it covered by CCTV? It would help if there's blame to be laid.
Roger Mexico
Meanwhile there's a news story on IOM Newspapers that illustrates the ongoing war between Auldyn and the DoI. The former have replaced the wheelchair of a 97 yer-old DD veteran that was broken when he was on holiday by the lack of adaptations for wheelchair users that there was then - and for all I know now. The veterans daughter praised Auldyn after they "generously stepped in as a goodwill gesture, to replace the damaged wheelchair, after the local council highways department [sic] appeared to abdicate responsibility and liability". Of course we know Auldyn will just stick it on the bill with an extra 100% for keeping quiet, but it's another triumph for all those PR professionals that the Manx government employ.

Well the Colas group which auldyn are part of have annual revenue of 12bn euros so can probably afford a wheel chair , be interesting if eventually there is a legal case over defects as Colas can afford to fight any claims they consider inappropriate

Still dont see how that red concrete issues is down to Auldyn despite what the DOI PR machine says. Boris Johnson
Drove through the prom this afternoon, nothing happens on the island, its a Thing To Do.... Here are my thoughts and marks out of 10. 🙂 My thoughts as a person who has done a bit of building/ civil engineering in my younger days.................. Who thought that a cast square edge on a bit of red concrete in the middle of a road would either look good or stay square? The red concrete edges are crumbling, that is not a fault of Auldyn, it is a design fault, you cant cast an square edge in concrete like that. Score out of 10 - is 2, could do better...................... The approach to the round thing at the bottom of Broadway from Broadway with the pedestrian crossing lights gives the impression that you can GO, lights are green so GO. Not good Score out of 10 - is 1, could do better and may end in big crash......................... Turning up Broadway from the Villa side is not good either, you go through the roundalist thing and you are looking right and suddenly, if you can see them, come across a red light for pedestrianlists crossing. I would bet on serious pedestrian injury's here very soon. Score out of 10 - is minus 10, death of pedestrian/s forecast soon............................. Just my thoughts.

Its not about who has to give way to who. It wo t be an issue for small knocks, but if someone is maimed or killed it will be about who drove appropriately to the condition. The law says you must approach a roundabout with caution. Whatever the circumstances, if you kill a pedestrian, you are doomed.

From what I can tell it's also below the minimum distance from a junction. Yup

Well, you may know Auldyn will just stick it on the bill (well you don’t) Perhaps, just perhaps, they may have generously stepped in as a goodwill gesture. (and in the process generated positive publicity for themselves - so what?)

And in the same process generated at least an equal amount of negative publicity for the DOI who are not only culpable overall for this farce but are also now painted as uncaring and evasive of their responsibility in this particular issue. Not that it will bother them of course, they have a collective skin thickened by unaccountability, impregnable positions and superannuation entitlement and a Minister so blind to their failings that he needs to be issued with a white stick. It appears to be increasingly obvious that legal and proven traffic management and design regulations have been discarded in favour of some twisted ideology that dictates that only trams (eventually), cyclists and pedestrians have any right to be in this area. The DOI have become the Islamic State of traffic on this Island. With any luck, Mullah Baker will be out shortly though, not that it will make much difference, sadly.
