Vast majority I saw today cannot park within the markings by virtue of either poor driving ability or cars that are too wide.

Why have the width so narrow?.

All of those would be a driving test pass, infact the one closest to the kerb would most likely have been told to park further away in future to allow themselves more room for error when manoeuvring, you don’t get any extra points for getting any closer as my instructor used to say to me.

Anyone know if they have used this stuff before?

Interesting that it is specialists from UK.  Will be interesting to see how it holds up if they are putting it on the hallowed TT circuit.

A1 Peel to Douglas Road, at Greeba - surface treatment

The Department has engaged Colas to undertake a programme of surface treatment on suitable road surfaces at a number of sites  across the Island.  The work is being undertaken by a specialist team from the UK.

The first location to be treated will be the  section of  the A1  Peel to Douglas Road between  Ravensdale, Main Road, Greeba  and Greeba Castle.

This work will be undertaken tomorrow (Wednesday 15 September)  beginning  after 9 am and  will be completed by 4 pm at the latest.  One  lane   will be treated at a time. Two way traffic will be maintained through the site  using STOP/GO boards which will move as the work progresses.

The product being applied is "Ralumac", which is a cold lay micro-asphalt surface treatment which is cost effective, durable, quick to apply and less environmentally impactive than other approaches to road maintenance.

Highway Services”

Ralumac has been used for many years, several places have used it including the TT course Ballahutchin/Kirk Micheal among other places had a coating of ralumac.

Good to know thanks.  So why don’t we have the skills to lay it locally?

I do not think it is the skill involved it is more to do with the machinery to lay it, the DOI have a shit track record with trying to carry out tried and tested methods of road maintenance, the have spent a fortune on machinery to carry out tasks such as rhinopatch/jetpatch and have failed, whether this is due to the wrong operator's or lack of training I am not sure.

Totally as predicted.

during tram season traffic flow along the Prom will now be at max horsetram speed.

This will have a knock on effect at Lord St, Broadway, Summer Hill and Onchan Head.

During TT, Douglas will be at a total stand still for several hours at a time.

The police will get the blame.

And people who aren’t trained in any road planning pointed this out as soon as the plans were published.  The whole section from near enough Broadway to the bottom of summer hill is too narrow.

The parking is to narrow. The roadway is to narrow.

Total shambles and totally predictable from the very first set of drawings.
