But but but....that shouldn't make any difference to 52 week per year-viable cycle commuting using thousands of pounds-worth of dedicated facilities? Unless of course for the majority it's only actually viable for two or three months of the year? In which case you've got to consider the veracity of what the public have been told and the value to the taxpayer of such limited intended-use facilities? Another point; take the cycleway put in on the old railway line in Ramsey. It was a nice, tidy job (albeit going nowhere useful) but nobody rides a bike down there at anytime during the day because it's mostly populated by peeps with either free-range dogs or dogs on extended leads taking up the full width. So it's not now even a shared facility, it's a footpath.

It's also missing the promised lighting a bit like the promised access road to Dandara land.

This made me LOL. My advice to new arrival is always buy a waterproof jacket with a hood.
Boris Johnson
Richmond hill has those drains in the kerbs, rows of holes that they say is the reason for closing the road to clean them according to IOM Today website article Begs the question, how are they going to clean the prom kerbs with holes? Close the prom too? From what I have see down there there are not many kerbs without those holes? I once attended one of those Promenade meetings they held at the Sea Terminal - a DOI mandarin delighted in telling me that the holes in those kerb stones are "uniquely sized for Douglas Promenade". So no doubt whatever standard machine they use to clean them in the rest of the world won't work here and we'll need a unique super-duper machine to clean them. Omobono
I understand they cant be jetted ,and someone in the department has already pointed out they will never be away from the drains ,and the prom will regularly flood, you may remember they used to lift the old grids after bad weather and storm deposits ,and clear them with a gully sucker , cant do that with these kerbside drainage holes , it appears the department still haven't learned anything from the Richmond hill flood problems ,

Been involved with drainage and groundworks for many years and access is the key. Not sure how they have access to clearing these drains tbh . Must have a look when down there and ask a few discrete questions to sources . If there is no acccess its not going to end well .

Are you implying that our glorious promenade could end up awash with sand and pebbles or clowns which might block these horizontal drains?
