Went through Broadway roundelly roundabout yesterday from Villa side trying to go up towards Victora Road. But got stuck for several minutes becasue traffic was backing up from temp lights where concrete is being repaired I assume. Whereas before there was a filter lane on the left which was only really stopped by pedestrain corssing on the junction (southbound couldn't turn right up Broadway) Also noticed a lot of folks just drive onto a roundel even if their exit is blocked (though to be fair they often do this on roundabouts too) and pull U-turns (even if they aren't a taxi). Roll on Christmas holidays and TT weeks. So now a broken down vehicle or accident northbound in front of the villa or beyond will force traffic up either Market Street (out onto Victoria Street) or Finch Road onto Prospect Hill or up Crellins Hill. Possibly a U-turn back southbound to the Sea Terminal is the only other alternative. So essentially pushing the diverted traffic back into the centre of town where it will already be congested by vehicle trying to get onto the northbound prom. Don't envy any HGV or coach drivers doing that. My predicition is in 12-24 months the bottom of Broadway will get an 'improvement' to at least allow a filter to the left on the roundelly roundabout. Almost as if he couldn't decide which one to use or maybe couldn't even see the coloured stone marking from that level. And it'll only get worse as the stone gets dirt on it. Cue multi-million pound stone scrubbing DoI vehicle in 6-12 months. b4mbi Posted October 23, 2021 Share Posted October 23, 2021 I'm sure it's been commented before , but one each of the Harris promenade and Loch promenade stone obelisks are the wrong way round to the direction of traffic. I.e. says Harris promenade when leaving and moving on to central prom. its just wrong. They appear to have made the road super narrow between esplanade and Broadway where the road crosses the double tram tracks. That's the word of the infrastructure minister who's been quizzed on the subject in the House of Keys this morning. Tim Crookall says the overall work is '95% complete' however the rail regulator has raised a concern with the tramway points at the bottom of Broadway, meaning they now need to be modified at a factory in the UK. Work on a seventy-metre section of tramway between Broadway and Esplanade Mews cannot continue until they're returned. Yes, almost inevitably that programme will change and so will be updated - maybe daily, maybe weekly. Maybe even hourly. But there needs to be a plan. Except, clearly, on the Isle of Man. Now the points need more work, another section of the tramway is "put back", along with that already announced. This will see some people into retirement. Ask the fucking 'specialist' to give an estimate. If they can't then employ some fucker who can. Or make a fucking informed guess. Then incorporate that work into the existing (if only?) plan. It is not fucking fuckety fuck fuck fuck "impossible" to give an estimated completion date on anything. Employ people who know what the fuck they are doing. Make a plan, allow for contingencies, and give a fucking completion date. If there is some unforeseen problem then update the fucking plan accordingly.
