Promenade - Megathread

I haven’t read the last few pages so no idea of this has been mentioned.

I just walked from Jacs to the sea terminal.

It is lovely that when you walk past the villiers to cross Victoria Street and follow the nice new pavement down the pedestrian bit that is nibbled for people who struggle to see……..you step into a puddle, when either side are well drained.

Everyone involved in this shit show needs sacking.

.... but will end up getting promoted or quietly retiring with a nice pension.

The phrase 'bit off more than they could chew (let alone swallow) springs to mind'.

But that is missing the point, this will be the project that never dies... ongoing maintenance and job creation. I reckon it'll be about 12-24 months before the 'minor' amendments start to appear.

All gone quiet on a vote on continuing the horse tram and the £1m traffic lights

Also I'm still slightly mystified by the strip of weeds/grass.

Maybe it'll be planted with Manx Palms to become Douglas (City) Sunrise Boulevard? Suspect it'll become a linear dog shit friendly footpath.

There's a metal sheet lay across the road on the zebra crossing outside Quids Inn. Seems to be moving around as vehicles go over it. Wonder what it's hiding.

Maybe they did find a void after all? Or more likely, given the lack of natural ones discovered, they decided to create one as justification?

It's the money pit, they only cover that over when they don't think they can screw any more money from the public purse.

Can't do that now as we've got the tram lines and gazillion pound traffic lights to do yet. Then electrification for the 2nd hand refurbished Blackpool trams.

Or maybe it's for a time capsule

It's all part of the authentic Isle of Man experience

Sorry Mr. Pendant but I wasn’t talking about any of what you divert to, I was talking about the shameful waste of money and shoddy workmanship applied to the prom refurbishment as I’m sure you well know.

I was also pointing out how the recent bypass over the water by scale and comparison  clearly shames the Department of Incompetence’s ongoing abortion?

To be fair John only provided some information which was relevant to the debate. I didn't read it as pedantic.

I still maintain that, yes, the prom is a poor project for many reasons, it still cannot be compared to a project that is so different.

The irony is that the Bay Gateway is also considered a poor project in that it too overran in cost and time.

Excellent information there. It brought back memories of trips over the years, north and south.

John you should go on Mastermind - specialist topic: "The History of Motorways and roads around Lancaster & Morecambe.

Wasn't there some student rag day prank where they put a zebra crossing across the the M6?

It’s the entrance to the tunnel that’s going to be dug under the Irish Sea to England, so that the £100 million we’ve spent on the Liverpool dock will be properly and comprehensively wasted. No half measures from the DOI.

Don't be silly, it'll be to Iceland because the outside consultants mistyped 'Ireland' and spellchecker didn't catch it by the time anyone spots the mistake (when they put up the signage and someone in the public points it out) it'll be several hundred million pounds and fifty miles in the wrong direction.

After all if they couldn't spell STOP could they? And maybe that is the problem, the DoI don't know what STOP means.

A tunnel to Iceland? Even our Govt can't be that stupid?

Iceland type products are in Shoprite and Tesco, buffet in a box if you can't be bothered to cook for your guests!!!

The tunnel is probably to France, fags and booze duty free runs.

I thought the strip of grass is where the horse tram lines are going to be when the save enough money up to replace the money that was intended for this process and got spent on the promenade proper.   The tunnel going from UK to Ireland has been scrapped by Boris according to the Daily Mail, so it must be right 🤣.    Just so my street cred does not sink any lower I do not purchase said publication just really the headlines on my iPad.

Nice to see they have finally started painting the sides of some of the unlit main roads, namely our lezarye and Glenn Duff way.

a shame that the lines actually guide you straight accross the road and into the Glenn Duff depot!

Looks like someone pulled out and got half way to Ramsey without realising he was painting the road.

I assume it is proper road paint and is right down part of the racing line and apexes for the TT so will no doubt need removing at reasonable expense.

It'll be left like that for weeks to properly dry making removal all the more difficult!
