They've already been told by engineers that the only way to fix it will be breaking it out and either re-doing it or replacing it with tarmac. Do it right the first time every time and walk away happy. As for cutting a 1-2 inch channel all the way along the rails in 300m sections, that's an incredibly shit job. I feel bad for the people doing it. That's what happens when the dickhead writing the plans uses the rails as shutters. Astonishingly stupid. They should make the planners do it, in weather like today.
