Major thread-drift, but - Anyone whose pension is paid by the taxpayer (police, politicians, etc.) should not receive a penny until they have reached the official retirement age - I think it is now 66 years. If in the meantime they find themselves unemployable, they can join the many other people who find themselves in that situation.

Certainly true of politicians who keep raising the retirement age.

Maybe defer any kind of pension politicians can take until 10 years after the official retirement age!

Another piece of art for the prom, to commemorate the 59 Manx horses who went war for King and Country...

I’m all for more art on promenade but not if it costs as much as Bee Gees c £170k & the dancers c£50k I think & where’s poor old Sir Normans statue gone?

Ooh.  And apart from a period of about 6weeks, I’ve never been a civil servant.

Thanks for that vote of support for your public servants.

Nurses, firefighters and soldiers too I trust?

If we’re playing that game, Manx civil and public servants are taxpayers too. So they pay for the Manx public’s state pensions.

If we're playing that game X2 why do the rest of us have to wait until we're dead to claim ours!

You can’t claim private pension that came as part of your contract of employment until you are dead?

Strange.  All of mine are payable from 50 or 55 if I want them to be?

Are you maybe confusing the state pension with a civil service pension?  They are two completely different things.

Where's your sense of devilment!

That doesn't make any sense. If they retire before 65 they get less. The pension burden is the same whenever they retire.

Except for fire service and police?

Fire service & police get pension earlier but they have always paid into schemes at a high rate unlike most public sector who have only recently had to contribute
