Remember the days when the Colonnade was hosed down in the early hours of a summer’s morning.

Yes I do and the toilet facilities  in the Villa Marina Arcade  had staff on duty who kept them clean. Sad that times have changed so much

Found the solution for the horse tram: we just build an overpass! A horse tram skyway. So the prom would look like this, and all we need are five years and maybe ten million:

It's a long time since any of that sort of cleaning happened, and if you think that the previous gang who ran the Town were interested in socialist dogma (or indeed any sort of ideas at all) then you must have been smoking something strong.

The area in front of the Sefton was always going to end up looking dreadful because the DoI used the same old Chinese granite and it always looks terrible after a short time because it is so light in colour.  Lessons are never learned.

The use of this pale granite, a material not local to the island, the fact that it's bloody absorbent unless properly sealed, the fact that it's use here is money for the ccp while we talk about bringing in hate crime laws, somewhat irks me..............................

Why Roger, I do believe you've triggered me!

Just who decided that the granite would be a good idea.

Was it one person or was there a committee who traveled to far flung places to marvel at its wondrous lustre covered in bird shit and dross. Who signed off on the purchase. Please do not tell me it was Black, would not trust him with the kitty on a night out.

Me too.  When I came back to the Island and saw the village and town squares with this installed I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought the painters had dropped paint all over it and it was waiting to be cleaned up - but no - that was actually how it looked. Age has not made it look better. `What a wasted opportunity to use our native materials instead of dragging this stuff half way across the world.

They used some sandstone in Peel.

It was the wrong colour sandstone but at least they tried

The Sefton Group should be obliged to utilise that area, for outside eating and drinking, bearing in mind that it was built free of charge for them. But I guess that they know they can't compete with the more nimble, innovative and imaginative hospitality providers who are already there, or coming soon, to the colonnade.

Sometimes, it does well to read the room.

Fine, horse salami then. But don’t forget I offered to fight for an eight lane horse tram skyway with a monorail in the middle!

The problems were already known and identified from its installation in Parliament St, Ramsey. Allegedly the sealing process in Ramsey was descoped in the name of saving money, that left the granite open to staining from any number of sources, if not footfall itself (Ramsey Commissioners current whipping boy is dog piss, requiring owners to wash it away after their pooch has leaked).

Bar natural rainfall the only solution would be regular scrubbing and washing, all on the ratepayers tab naturally.
