Not with you driving it won't. Whatever happened to good old fashioned watch where you are driving?

Stuck right in the middle of the motor-cycles-only lane.

Yes, I noticed that during MGP, pink concrete is the new non-regulatory signage for motorcycles only (along with all the other non-regulatory stuff of course), it was remarkable how many were using it, including the guy who nearly came a cropper when he hit the kerb on the divider on the tram crossover point, there's a video on FB somewhere.

Non-Believer
No, none at all, none whatsoever. That's why the trams don't go to the Sea Terminal any more. So there'll be no requirement for extra funding then, seeing as the taxpayers have already paid for it once? A bit like nobody was to blame for the MEA overspend. Another lamb to the DOI slaughter.
Manx Resident
Alex Brindley did an excellent job hosting the Mannin Line at lunchtime when he put Chris Thomas MHK on the spot about the promenade. At one point a hotelier called in and complained about the state of the seats in the prom bus stops. He said the seats were leaving his guests with rust marks on their backsides and asked why nothing was done. In response Mr Thomas appeared to say he had been waiting for a report, and when he was challenged about yet another report he said it wasn’t a “report” but a paper for approval at the last (Board) meeting. Do we really have politicians and senior managers micro-managing the cleaning, sanding and painting of bus stop seats?. Politicians are not meant to be civil servants creating and managing more and more bureaucracy, deal with the big issues not pots of paint. 8
Dave Hedgehog
Good to see work has finally started on the sunken gardens. Should all be ready just in time to get destroyed by a winter storm. 1

If they had their own maintenance teams then it wouldn't need a paper for the expenditure to be signed off, it would be within the annual budget. Same with potholes, line markings, Marine Drive etc. etc. Edited September 5, 2022 by Gladys
Non-Believer
The DOI have previously on a number of occasions been unable to provide breakdown of Prom expenditure, it has oft been discussed on here. Yet now it's all hunky-dory. Sounds like somebody's aiming to bring things to a sweet closure. Of course there's always the ongoing PAC inquiry to be completed and report.

Expenditure sign off is relative to the total cost and not who does it. Surely, if they had their own maintenance teams, each and every little job isn't signed off at Ministerial level? So, there would be, for example, a pothole team that has a budget for the year, a bus stop painting team, the same and a rolling programme of line marking, each with a budget for the year. Of course, if there something exceptional then that would need a paper and sign off. Of course expenditure would need to be approved, but if it is within budget, that is surely just a simple validation of "Got the paint and sandpaper, it goes under this head of budgetted expenditure, here is the bill, please pay".
