There's a man driving a tractor around that beach (on a reportedly very lucrative DBC contract) most days pointlessly shovelling seaweed around without doing very much to dispose of the problem properly.

One wonders how much sand and gravel he could have moved away from the seawall had he been engaged to do so rather than said futile seaweed operations.

It would probably need all those groynes (or whatever they're called) fixing/replacing and some proactive maintenance of other bits.

Indeed Douglas Beach was all pebbles before the Groynes were put in and so to make sure that Douglas Beach would look even better DBC decided to remove the Groynes and what do we have now a pebble beach, that's surprising isn't it

There was a lot more sand on Douglas beach before they built breakwater extension, also the sewage outfall worked a lot better. But the then DOI ignored what locals told them would happen and fell for the shite they were fed by the consultants, who would not of earned the pretty millions of pounds they got if it was found not to be needed. A different design of breakwater was proposed that would not of altered the tide flow as much but protect harbour from easterly winds. Also they could put gas tank there for safety, look how that worked out. What is the golf ball used for these days.

Some would say this isn't true.

The DOI always ignore what the locals say or want.

Yeah, I seem to remember the top boards were gone in the 60s??? The deck chairs were from Broadway northwards! Were we ever going to continue that deck chair beach? Was it best, cost wise, to let it fail, to save the cost of replacing the  groynes???

No one uses the beach in that manner anymore, as a rate payer, I'd be pretty miffed if long thousands had been spent to keep the beach in it's traditional condition to the now use of no one wants a deck chair on the beach!!!

The same can be said of the childrens playground, as a play facility for children, a chance for parents and their kids to interact,  it's a well worth provision on the rates but if it's just another opportunity for the parents use their phone for social media, why should ratepayers fund that??? Can the WiFi be blocked within the playground???

Was it DOI who decided to remove the groynes and let the beach become the state it is now then?

Out of interest.  What is you first memory of Douglas beach and do you think it has changed much since?

The lack of maintenance os a disgrace and there is no need for an ugly ass seawall
