Will the airport radar be signed off and fully functional before either of them?

That "State of the art"  MARCONI RADAR will be obsolete by the time either of those are completed i think.

It's a good question as to what the current status is.  In July 2017 I pointed to a reply to Tynwald where Harmer said it would be all sorted by the end of that month.  But the following month the date had already slipped and Reynolds was talking about early September.  Then, in March 2018, Bettison raised the matter at the Environment and Infrastructure Standing Committee:

Quote

Q61. Miss Bettison: Just picking up, obviously the radar thing has been rumbling on for some time and then last year you were able to make a positive statement about that and there was mention of a formal review of the operation, after which then the initial approval would be replaced with a final licence. I just wondered where we were up to with regard to that?

Mrs Reynolds: We moved to temporary approval in operating our new radars. Whilst our old radars are still there, they are switched off, they are not in use. Some enhancements have been going on; the last ones were in December. So we have still not technically completed our project with a final licence, but I would hope that would be round about September time this year.

May I just add to that? But it is a great radar for an island that has a mountain in the middle of it to be able to see the other side of the mountain and low-level is really excellent, when traditionally radars are by line of sight. So in terms of a piece of equipment, we are very happy with it.

So while some sort of switchover had happened they still didn't expect approval till September 2018.  What has happened in the year plus since heaven only knows.

I'd asked this question to Chris Thomas in around March this year . From memory he said there would be an announcement in the next month or so . Still officially nothing 8 months later .

The most sinister part of all this is, the staff were sworn to secrecy ! no one would answer any questions about it, the old installation was still doing the "day job" and the management did their utmost to keep the whole thing secret from the taxpayers! It is clear that anything which took the shenanigans this did to become operational was clearly a mismanaged procurement from the start !

Ah, but do they know that.  The way the DoI behaves, not only do they seem to think they're royalty, it's as if the Divine Right of Kings had never gone away.

Bruce Hannay being the prime example in his day.....

Which concern is actually doing the rail installation?

Seems to be a hotch potch of Auldyn doing a little bit but then there's definitely been a UK contractor doing other bits.

MyProm posted that had a specialist company over last week to file the rails down.

Heard another rumour that the rail part of the scheme has gone "well over budget" with what they expect it will cost now.

Wasn't the rail tracks budgeted at about £7m to begin with?
