A couple of Auldyn guys helping but mainly U.K. staff and expertise . Same as do the electric Tram work I'm told

MyProm posted that had a specialist company over last week to file the rails down. Heard another rumour that the rail part of the scheme has gone "well over budget" with what they expect it will cost now. Wasn't the rail tracks budgeted at about £7m to begin with? It will have def gone over budget as the spec has changed 3 times . The original which rails were laid direct on concrete . The second one when they lifted the rails onto pads and different brackets holding rails and the most recent one where they have added further extra fixings to the rails . They have also added mesh to concrete in the pink concrete which they didn't do on the first area they did that cracked initially . That's just what I've noted maybe other stuff . Plenty on the rails as there well ahead of the rest of works . Hence why they go back from time to time . They have stated to a friend , there staying in a hotel near his shop that the whole job is a mess and totally over engineered and completely designed wrong . The rail part of the job that is . Non-Believer
Standard of workmanship is shocking. Questions that need to be asked though are, where are the skills? Where is the experienced supervision? Non-existent it would appear. No wonder we're in trouble with infrastructure projects.

But who's nicked the diving board? lol Perhaps only one side of railings should have been used to allow people to get off when they want instead of jumping off at the end?
ecobob
It’s not entirely clear from the photo but this bottom step is one metre up from floor level.
GreyWolf
Come on give the guys a break, it’s obvious to me once the string across the front is attached it’s a one person viewing platform. Seriously it must get embarrassing for the workers who have to carry out the plans of the stupid. 2
manxy
Rumour has it that its set up for baptism events to attract tourists to Laxey They would have done it at Douglas, but would have needed another 100 meters to get passed the seaweed

The Project Manager was Saint Greta, she called in on her round the world yacht trip. She was future proofing the steps against sea level rises. Non-Believer
Further delays announced for promenade. (iomtoday). On account of plans to call a temporary halt during next tourist season to minimise effects on traders. If we've got any left by then. Traders that is. And tourists. I've mentioned that I suspected this would happen as they have got themselves in a hole all of there own making . The plan submitted to tynwald by the DOI the other month was basically thrown out . They planned to dig up the hotel /guest house side of the rest of the Prom next summer . Clearly that was considerably flawed and a urgent meeting with stakeholders (hotel/guest house / businesses ) was convened. Funnily enough without the dates that the work was to take place in having been redacted after tynwalds damming of DOI's plan Input was asked for and received over a two week period and an anouncement was delayed as to work schedule as DOI assessed the input from businesses . Due to the fact there winging it at the moment as to no plans properly prepared they had no suitable time to fit in this work. Surprise surprise they going to grind to a halt as clearly the work in front of hotels can only be carried out fairly in winter months . It's a complete mess and in all very sad and unnecessary . Yet those same areas could have been carried out this winter but instead they wrongly deemed the tram rail work was more important !!!! Not a clue .
