Twitch
The saga of Castletown Golf Club and the nearby hotel epitomises most of what is wrong with this Island. On local golf clubs, wasn't Douglas Golf Club designed by the same guy who did the world-famous Augusta course where the Masters is held?

Although he wasn’t the sole designer of Augusta - others were involved too.

Plus Peel designed by James Braid, and Castletown was originally an Old Tom Morris design, so the island hasn't wanted for big name architects in golf. asitis
The relevant observations in respect of this sorry scenario are simply this, when the land was sold to Dandara it should have been spelled out , the permission is for a hotel boys, not apartments and never will be. The developer meanwhile takes the view, we'll leave this to be such a problem we know eventually they will cave and we'll get our permissions ! In the meantime the public will be treated to the eyesore for years and years. If government had any balls they would make them landscape it, or build a hotel should they wish to, or compulsory purchase it and restore the area ! This is the issue, whilst ever the developer sees an advantage to leaving the site in the state it is then nothing will change ! 5

Max Power
The end of the line? http://www.iomtoday.co.im/article.cfm?id=64993&headline=Planners' final no to Dandara hotel§ionIs=news&searchyear=2021 I really don't know why anyone bothers to invest in anything on this god forsaken island. We must have more crap that is 'of special scientific interest' than anywhere else on the planet, most of it is probably the rare six toed and fingered, knuckle dragging, wooly headed idiot who hold this place in the distant past, and block anything and everything which is proposed to bring the 21st century to the island! 1

Agreed, a ridiculous decision.

The last paragraph is funny. Potential options which he now saw included returning the site to nature, building an environmental education centre, or a smaller ’destination’ hotel. They have missed the most obvious option. Leave it to rot for another 20 years. This is likely to be Dandara's plan now.

Many of them due to a small band of idiot protestors getting politicians involved in their petty shit stirring!
hissingsid
The properties down there are not cheap and the residents obviously do not want a really beautiful part of the Island to get overdeveloped. It is a few years since I was done there but I seem to remember the approach road being quite narrow…may have been improved since then. Money always has and always will talk in the Isle of Man. I do hope the Castle Mona has not been purchased with the intention of letting it rot.
Non-Believer
Demolish and return to nature. With the exception of permanent crucifixes and gallows for the Saturday morning public executions of over-spending MHKs and civil servants.

Dandara aren't going to fund that, neither will they give it away for nothing. That leaves the cost with the GMP again.
